It's not the damned "whispering". He writes awesome melodies. Now - YOU have missed out on all the great Reggae and Hip hop you congatay estuengay! (For the non-initiated this is fake Mexican cursing - try it, it's fun)

You sit up there in your ivory tower Koolzip and do whatever nerdalicious stuff people do in those towers. Plus I hate you.

1. Agreed.
Iron and Wine, Death Cab for Cutie, The Postal Service, Modest Mouse, ALL good music.

23. "Elitists?"
If I'm an "Elitist," what does that make you, Mr. "I know more about hip hop than Afika goddamn Bambattaa himself?"

5. Ugh
Conor Oberst has more talent in one of his pubic hairs than 99% of musicians have combined.

4. I have to admit Iron and Wine don't do it for me...
I'm not a big fan of that whole neo-folk thing. Although I like Iron and Wine better than the latest crop of that type of thing what with your Devendra Banhart's and such it still leaves me cold. I don't actively dislike any of it, it's just not particularly enjoyable to me.

The only "guy and his acoustic guitar" I can enjoy thoroughly are the Mountain Goats/John Darnielle because his playing and songs have a bit of urgency and spark to them.

20. I wholeheardtedly agree.
Darnielle does it right. That guy's a genius, and even though he only uses an acoustic guitar, his songs indeed have a some urgency to them. Music that seems so lightweight that it's about to float dreamily away annoys me to no end. HOLD MY ATTENTION, GODDAMNIT! If I want to float dreamily away, I have drugs that'll do it for me.

ANd Devandra Barnhart/Six Organs of Admittance/PG Six/ that whole crew are mere suckers of the organ the Incredible String Band presented like a dangling paisly porkchop back in the late 60's, and lemme tell ya, the "Incredible" was unearned. Go sit on a maypole, you flower-scarfers!

13. Ah, ya knuckleheads ...
Take it from an old fart who's deaf in one ear and full of shit just the same, life is too damned short to piss and moan about whose what is k-k001 and fo' shizzle. Read the whole long-winded rant I inflicted on that other thread.

And after you do that, don't thank me. Go make some new music.

22. For your information, I MAKE NEW MUSIC ALL THE TIME.
And I have earned major bucks as a rock critic before (I used to be known as Greil Marcus before the operation....you may have heard of me!) Woulda kept at it too, but there were all these rabid fans of mine (I called 'em "Greil-ians") who wrote to every mag or rag with my byline, BEGGING to blow me or at least "touch it. Just touch it."

So anonymity is my new hard-on.

Furthermore, there is no other activity I'd rather engage in than pissing AND moaning (If I'm too high, I'll settle for just pissing) about music. If you don't like it, you can go shave your Pancreas and tell your Auntie Steve to diddle a grizzly dog.

(And you shouldn't make fun of the humor impaired. The MSians have Jerry Lewis; whither the poor laughless?)

18. Subjectivity's a bitch, ain't it?
You can take your "Iron" orally and your "Wine" anally, like that dipshit who got a sherry enema.

And if you still think that beardo has an original thought in his oversized Floridian head of his, you've never heard Pearls before Swine before.
