Randy Constan: The Man, The Pixie ... The Evangelist?
Edited on Mon Mar-14-05 02:22 PM by Pigwidgeon
Randy Constan is semi-famous for being Peter Pan. I'm not lying -- the man dresses up as Peter Pan or Little Lord Fauntleroy or a pixie, and has taken his act to TV.

His website has been feted in thousands of links, most of them sarcastic, wry, or ironic. When you go to the website, you notice something you wouldn't expect: Constan is far from being a pervert or a sexual deviate. In fact, his dress-up games seem downright healthy compared to many other popular fetishes, and also involve no hard-core sexual content (and very little soft-core, either).

It's not exactly my kind of thing, but as Jerry Seinfeld would say, "... not that there's anything wrong with it."

However, Randy Constan is a pixie who wears many hats. A Renaissance Pixie, as it is. He is also a musician, an engineer, and ... a Christian minister.

Well, lots of whackjobs are Christians, the ministry is practically a Chock-Full-O'-Nuts franchise, and we have a very public Christian in the White House making war on the entire Islamic world right now. What is interesting about Constan's Christianity is that it's so different from most of what passes for Christianity these days.

  • He's a universalist. Not an UUA universalist, but a fundamentalist universalist.
  • He donates all the money he makes from selling pixie swag to childrens' charities.
  • He doesn't believe that anyone is going to be tortured for all eternity in Hell.

His ministry is called Through The Cracks ministry. Here's a sample of what he preaches:
Here are just some of the many ways people fall through the cracks:

  • God causes miraculous healings all the time and it is a joyous occasion when such miracles happen, but those that do not receive such healings are often mistreated to the point of exclusion. Like "Job's counselors", people accuse or assume wrongdoing or lack of faith as the reason for their plight. Then to add insult to injury, they are taught that they are calling God a liar if they confess that they are still sick. Eventually they leave. In like manner, wonderful teachings on moves of the spirit are plentiful. Yet those that do not experience certain supernatural events, or experience God in exactly the same way are quietly ignored, and again assumed to be at fault.

  • The immature and intolerant handling of many issues related to sexuality and relationships is appalling. Divorced believers, especially those that re-marry are often frowned upon. In some cases the church will not welcome the new partner, as if to force a choice between an intolerant congregation or a loving new spouse. Women or men who circumvent their traditional roles in any manner, in or out of church, are often considered everything from rebels to perverts. A whole spectrum of people whose gender identity or sexual preferences are outside the comfort zone of religion are routinely ostracized, and every conceivable effort is made to make them unwelcome. The unspoken hope is that they will simply go away, and in most cases they do. In others, they are strongly encouraged to leave, or even ordered to stay away.

  • The Bible tells us to give according to our own consciences (2 Cor 9:7) and to refrain from bragging about our giving (Matt 6:2). Yet a convenient fund raising doctrine of mandatory "tithing" compels members to commit specific amounts as a "legal obligation", and routinely asks members to "testify" about their doing so. Such churches often disallow membership or any tangible involvement in church ministries until this requirement is fulfilled. The motive is too obvious to require explanation, and the results are destructive both to believers and the church's reputation in the world they wish to reach.

  • Believers are encouraged to study the bible for themselves and seek God's guidance. But if after doing so, they arrive at a different understanding, revelation, or interpretation that goes against some "status quo" teaching, they are considered a backslider, rebellious, or maybe not even a "true believer".
After reading it, I concluded that this Randy Constan is one sick fellow. A Christian, preaching love, universal salvation, and not obsessing over peoples' sexual behavior? We can rest easy knowing that somewhere, probably Camp X-Ray at the luxurious Guantánamo Bay Resort and Hotel, there is a cozy padded cell waiting for occupancy by Mr. Constan.

Or maybe, just maybe, America's best-known pixie might have the right idea. Not about wardrobe choices, mind you, but about that guy who so many of us wear on chains around our necks while screaming for blood and hellfire.

God Bless Randy Constan.

1. Oh man!
Now I feel bad for laughing at him in the "leaf blower" pic.

2. I love that guy.
He seems to have somehow retained the childlike carefree appreciation of fun that I wish I had had a chance to experience even once.
