I'm curious to know if the end of the election cycle is seeing some drop off.

1. Name in Lights Syndrome...
It's always been around.

"Look at me! I'm leaving! But I will check to see if anyone replies. Then I will read those replies. And if I have something lofty to say, I may reply, but then I really AM leaving!"

4. I thought most here were attention starved
or at least socially starved. 21st Century pub, after all.

5. They occur on every online forum or list.

I've been seeing them since 1993, when I was running DOS on an old PC.

Read 'em or not, they'll keep happening from time to time.

6. Farewell threads are as old as the internet boards.
Wherever there are more than two computer nerds in one place at any given time there will be a farewell thread sooner or later. It is kind of like death and taxes.

8. It's a message board thing, and it's been around as long
as the internet. Every board I've ever belonged to, no matter the topic, had them. It's a drama thing :)

9. Just seemed like a spurt of them lately.
I thought there was a DU trend starting.

10. Personally, If some one I knew and liked was planning on leaving DU..
I'd like them to tell me.

Though P.M.ing the person in question might be the better route, rather than making a big deal of it...

12. Every message board goes through this from time to time.
LOOK AT ME I'M LEAVING!!! No, DON'T beg me to stay!!!!

(I'm not saying that's why everyone does it. But they are generally seen that way, fair or not.)

Dunno. If I leave, I sneak out the back door and send some "see ya" PMs to people.

ever felt comfortable in, either contributing or reading, so it's new to me also. If you get tired, stop posting, is my thinking. No one is beholden to being here if they aren't enjoying the ride.
WOW! Having said that, I arrived at DU in September towards the end of the election cycle, and I've received a lot of knowledge and opinions, the majority being in agreement with my own self.
So I'm not dropping off because, despite the cynicism, which I too have, I like all the rest of it and the people here. I LOVE the fact that me, being a 49 year old, could be 'chatting' with a young one.
Rock on, DU!

Edit to add: I almost deleted this, but I wrote it and stand by it.
