Buncha Yankee pitchers are on their way to court on assault charges
I cannot FUCKING BELIEVE I am not in Boston for this.

Fun scenario: They win tonight, and I am landing in Boston at 4:30 tomorrow. By the time I clear customs and get a cab, a good portion of the game will be over. We win the thing, and I miss it completely.

Worse scenario: They lose tonight. I am landing in Boston at 4:30 tomorrow. By the time I clear customs and get a cab, a good portion of the game will be over. I will be dying in line, wondering.

I think I can wastch the game tonight, though. The Sky TV guide thing says its on. Ahhhh...

Go Sox. Zimmer had it coming. Bunch of the other Yankees are gonna be in court, no matter who wins. Pin stripes to prison stripes, just like John Gotti.

Yankees might face assault charges
ESPN.com

October 14 2003

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs2003/news/story?id=1637683

BOSTON -- Boston authorities investigating Saturday's bullpen fight during Game 3 of the ALCS reportedly will seek summonses Tuesday in order to charge Yankees Jeff Nelson and Karim Garcia with assault and battery.

The Washington Post, citing two sources familiar with the case, reported the story in its Tuesday editions.

Detective William Dunn and officer Michael Pankievich will go before a clerk magistrate in Roxbury District Court and present their evidence, according to The Post's report. If the summonses are granted based on that evidence, Nelson and Garcia might be charged in an attack on Red Sox grounds crew worker Paul Williams.

A copy of the police report, which was posted on The Boston Globe's Web site, stated that Nelson "was observed pushing/grabbing the victim in the chest area at which time both parties fell to the ground where Jeff Nelson began punching and flaring his legs at the victim." The report also stated that several other members of the Yankees bullpen "jumped on the victim," and right fielder Garcia jumped the outfield wall, entered the bullpen and began "striking down at the victim with his left hand."

Zimmer got dropped like third period French because he went for Pedro Martinez's face. He got off light; I don't care how old you are, if you go for my eyes, your arm is broken. Pedro took care of business with exactly the level of respect shown to Zimmer that Zimmer had shown to Pedro by trying to punch him in the face. More, actually.

Buncha Yankees gang-stomped a Fenway groundskeeper. It was several against one. Punk-ass fuckers. I kinda hope the Yankess do win this series. It'll be fun watching them handle the Cubs while half the pitching staff gets indicted for gang-assaulting a lone groundskeeper whose connection to the unfolding game that night was the grass it was being played on. These Yankees couldn't get to Pedro, so they stomped on some poor slob instead.

Punk-ass fuckers.

46. I think he hurt himself jumping the wall, actually.
I was listening to the game on the radio, and the announcer (Jon Miller, ESPN) stated he wasn't in the lineup due to an injured left hand, hurt while climbing the wall to get into the fisticuffs.

11. This ain't nuthin
I was in London when England tied Turkey 0-0 in a preliminary qualifying game. You should have seen the newspapers. All of them. Front and back. If Winston Churchill came back to life and brought the Queen the head of Osama bin Laden, he would not get the savage, lavish praise that was heaped on a bunch of soccer players who didn't score a point in the game. They didn't lose, and the newspapers called them OUR BRAVES and HEROES in 80 pt. headlines. The text was absolutely insane. No holds were barred in the way the Turkish team was described. From what I could glean, Turkey had it coming.

English football fandom makes American baseball fandom look quaint. Nice. Cuddly. Apt not to start a riot.

8. OK, so what is the whole alleged story
Did the Yankee players bait or harass the groundskeeper, and then hit him first? I mean, what is supposed to have happened.

They made only the vaguest references to this incident on the Fox Sports broadcast of Game 4.

so what gives?

14. Can you come up with a scenario
That explains this rationally? Did you read the story? The groundskeeper cheered once for the Sox while he was in the Yankee bullpen doing his job. Breach of etiquette, apparently. They beat the shit out of him for it. There are actual assault laws that apply to sports games, regardless of the commissioner's interpretation.

9. Will, like I said in a post the night of game 4
Don Zimmer had no business being on the field to begin with. He needs to keep his happy ass in the dugout. Period. Safer for him. Safer for everyone.
I think Pedro did what anyone in their right mind would have. Period.
(notice that none of the Yankees went after Pedro after he pushed Zim down? That speaks volumes about the situation)
As for the attack on the groundskeeper: If this is true then it is beyond any Punkicity that Pedro demonstrated when he pointed at his head. Period.

Ok- PLAY BALL!

15. All sports teams should do what the Philadelphia Eagles do
We know our fans are rude, crude and obnoxious to the point of endangering others at the game. So we set up Eagle Court in the basement of our stadium with a real live judge who will hand out the sentences right on the spot.

Think I'm kidding?

(rumor has it the fans have been more well-behaved since the team moved from the Vet to Linc Field)

18. I think the only thing worse than Republicans
Are the Boston Red Sux and their whiny fans. First your punk pitcher goes nuts because he's getting hammered and can't take it. Then your punk groundskeeper starts waving a towel in Nelson's face and gets what he has coming. So, like any good Red Sux fan, you start to whine and cry. If Boston was as good at winning as they are at whining, they'd have 26 championships too.

But posts like the one I just replied to are the norm on this topic. Besides, there is much to be played out on the matter. I'm not jumping to any conclusions, and since Nelson and Garcia likely won't see a courtroom for a month or so, I'll stick to baseball for now.

25. And You Are? Nice Introduction to DU, Pal.
Yes, Pedro got hammered. The Red Sox lost by a WHOLE RUN!

I was at the game, pal. Zimmer came at Pedro. My seasons tickets seats are behind the opposing team's dugout.

Nice generalization-condemning a whole fandom and whole region. I notice you're from California-the state that was stupid enough to elect the Governator.

You've made quite the splash winning friends and influencing people here...welcome to DU-NOT!

32. Yes, they only lost by a run
But the inning when Pedro lost his marbles, he was getting tattooed.

I never said Pedro didn't have the right to defend himself from Zimmer. Zim had no business trying to take a swing at a player.

And yes, Red Sox fans are whiny.

35. Red Sox fans are whiny.? Yankee fans aren't?
Edited on Tue Oct-14-03 12:09 PM by RationalRose
you should hear my Yankee-fan friends whine about Posada hitting low balls, Bernie Williams' shitty arm, and other woes. The glass is half-empty here in the Northeast-we have complaining elevated to an art form.

However, generalizing about a fan base is stupid. I'm happy the Sox got this far.

41. And the rest of Cali
Is solidly democrat. Feinstein, Boxer and a majority in the state legislature. Thankfully since the good guys outnumber the bad guys in Sacramento, the governator won't be able to do too much damage.

Unfortunately, Ahnuld can always go the route of appealing to the mob via voter initiatives. Hopefully the voters will have woken from their drunken stupor before it comes to that.

In Cali, voters were dazzled by Ahnuld's celebrity. How the heck did Romney ever get the governor's mansion in a state like Mass?

Nelson is a known homophobe and has been sent up for harassing a gay guy in the Yankees Org.

The amount of brains between the Yankees and their fans have still comes up a negative number.
