I have returned from icy DC to warm Florida |
|
Edited on Tue Mar-15-05 05:43 PM by steve2470
Oh it's so good to be home to warm weather and green grass. DC was very interesting but I'll stick with good old Florida. My son had a blast but I think I wore him out, rather than vice versa. I was surprised he didn't want to see all of DC, but he's 9. I guess in 7 years or so he'll want to see a lot more. Good to "see" all of you again. Steve (that lodgenet service at the hotel really sucked. I didn't take my laptop, big mistake.)

3. Early October is the best time to see DC |
|
I live in Maryland, not far from DC.
It can get bitterly cold and windy during the winter. Then it's hot and humid during the summer months. Late April and early May can be nice, but you never know.
Of course those times don't work well with school schedules. The city is a tourist madhouse during Spring break and cherry blossom time.
What did you see?

Pentagon, a LOT of the Metro, Hard Rock Cafe DC...most of it was closed, and that sucked. Smithsonian was fun but my son was really too young to really really appreciate it.

bring him to the Air and Space Museum.
I'm told the American Indian Museum and the Spy Museum are interesting, but haven't been there.
By Smithsonian, did you mean the Museum of Natural History? Because just about everything out there on the National Mall is part of the Smithsonian Institution, but Natural History is the part most people associate with the SI.

I was there twice in one year. Once with my husband, he had a meeting and I toured all over the city then we took our kids there about 6 months later since we felt we knew it well enough to show them a lot of things they would enjoy. They were a little older than your son so it was probably a little easier. I thought I would never get them out of the Air and Space Museum.

warm now in Florida. Brutal for you in about two months while we're enjoying the beauty of a real spring. Plus, Florida landscape is boring as all get out. :+

10. LOL, "Manhattan in the Swamps." Hilarious. |
|
Miami Beach was always known as the "5th borough of New York."
When I was growing up Miami, we could always tell when the freshman class at U of M was coming into town -- lots more New York license plates.

state to make me want to leave. It's that beautiful here. Except when it's 97 degrees in the shade and 50% humidity. That's what AC is for.
