I have to get out of town and it looks like Memphis may be the ticket. What should I do? Graceland? Just eat 45lbs of bbq? Tell me what to do!

and then make a run for the MS border...

no, don't do that. Just sit back, drink some brews, eat some ribs and listen to the tunes.

and don't forget the ducks at the Peabody.

10. If you're gonna be in town by 9 p.m. on Friday
You can go see The Dempseys at Blues City on Beale Street. They're a rockabilly trio that puts on a great live show--bring earplugs, though, 'cause they're plenty loud. (Usual disclaimers: Not affiliated with the band, don't know any of 'em personally, blah, blah, blah.)

You could also check out The Flying Saucer downtown within walking distance of Beale. They have over 200 different kinds/brands of beer on hand, if you're into that kinda thing.

11. Sun Studios is a must
Of course go to Graceland. B.B. King's has some good music at night.
As for BBQ, I liked Rendezvous. There is just a hell of a lot of good food in Memphis.
Beale street can be a blast. There is this bar that looks like a hole in the wall. I can't remember the name, but it has a shitload of guitars hanging all over signed by a lot of people. It's cool to grab a few beers and look at all the guitars.

13. Go to the Rum Boogie Cafe on Beale St.
Good food, and live music every night. When you're finished there, walk across the street to BB King's club. Always some good music there as well.

And yeah, you really can't go to Memphis without seeing Graceland. It was a lot smaller than I thought it would be for some reason.

Also you can stop at just about ANY Mom & Pop-type restaurant for some great BBQ.

14. I like the
Rum-Boogie on Beale Street. Good gumbo, pretty good dry ribs. Better, IMO, than Corky's or Rendezvous.

I'm going in a couple of weeks, and I intend to try Neely's ribs.

Have fun.

25. The Stax Museum of American Soul Music!
Rufus Thomas, Booker T & The MGs, Sam and Dave, Wilson Pickett, OTIS BY-GOD REDDING, Isaac Hayes, Albert King, Johnnie Taylor and on and on and ON! The museum is situated on the site of the original Stax studios, which were, unforgivably, torn down in the early 70s.

Home of some of the most satisfying music ever to come from ANYWHERE! www.soulsvilleusa.com

:loveya:
Stax. For. EVER.
