13. A permanent reminder of a temporary feeling. |
|
I never got a tattoo. I'm crazy enough to do it. Thing is, I can't think of any symbol that I'd want to make part of my permanent identity. I have some passions, like I can watch pelicans all day but I don't see how having a pelican tattoo would satisfy that. If I needed to tell everyone I like pelicans that might do, but that's not the same thing. Now maybe the Duke Ellington Orchestra across my back, yeah that's it... I'd be a walking illustrated history of the Duke Ellington Orchestra...from Jimmy Blanton through Aaron Bell to Mingus...
Well I never felt that need. I did go through a period in my youth when I wore ascots. But that went away.

9. why did you decide against it? |
|
if it was because you weren't sure you wanted it then - good idea, they're pretty permanent (not so much smaller/lighter ones if you're willing and able to get it lasered) if it was because of the pain they really don't hurt as much as people make out.

11. Don't do it. Here's why. |
|
You do not know if your are allergic to the ink or whatever it is that they use. If you are, you are totally fucked. You get a non stop allergic reaction.
I've been living in a bubble for 9 years. DU is my only outlet as a result of this process. Well, I'm also lying.
BUT, don't do it. It's a waste. Plus, you can by great temporary tattoos at these places. They last for a while and you can change them.
Bad idea...

29. That's what patch testing is for |
|
In Louisiana it's required and it's a good idea everywhere.
Basically, they pick somewhere that won't be seen and tattoo you with a very small amount of each ink they're going to use. Then you go away and come back after it heals so the artist can see if you're allergic to any of them.
Black is the least allergenic color because it's just carbon black, and no one is allergic to carbon. Red is the worst.

16. I got my first ink last June, at the age of 42 |
|
And I'm very happy with it. A long-stemmed rose on my right thigh, with three blossoms -- one a bud, one just opening, and the third fully open. And the full flower is backed by a circled pentagram.
I'm as happy with it today as I was when I got it.
More so, actually, because now it no longer itches. ;)

From your post, I kind of gathered that (I've posted drunk many the late Saturday here), and it's probably best you chickened out. After all, you wouldn't wake up in the morning to see something new on your buttox.

I had wanted a tat since I was about 25 and I finally did get my first tattoo when I was 51. They're all beautiful forms of body art, birds and flowers. Each one of them is positioned so they can easily be covered by clothing if I don't want to feel like the painted lady.

to get a tattoo. It should be a more careful decision than choosing a spouse. It's easier to divorce a spouse than get rid of a tattoo.

It a pic of angel. Inside the halo is my life partner's name--because she is my personal angel. She has the same thing on her back except it has my name in the halo. We got them for our 5th anniversary as a couple.

I don't regret getting them and I don't think I ever will. They both have meaning to me.
I didn't have any doubt about it. If you do, then don't do it. It's kindof a an all or nothing proposition :)
And btw - when I see someone with a Tweety or a Yosemite Sam, yeah, I do wonder about them :)
