Here's to all the waitresses, waiters, store checkers and people |
|
all people, who have to deal with people's bullshit and work hard to get by, only to spend 1/3 of their hourly salary just for a gallon of gas.
Hang in there, folks. There are some who recognize how hard your work is.

2. I really see a person based on how they treat service people |
|
People who are snooty at waitresses, etc. tick me off.

I think people would do better to be nice to waiters and waitresses, and they would get better service.
It is sort of like having a good boss vs an asshole boss, who are you going to work harder for?

7. Yeah, I heard a clip about a lady telling Bush she worked 3 jobs |
|
to get by, and he told her "How American of you". Yeah, American under you. It is a fucking problem when it is "American" to have to have 3 jobs just to fucking get by.
It is a trajedy that a person can't make enough to support his/her family or even his/herself on one full time job. That is a big problem!

9. In 1968, a family of four could survive on dad's single blue-collar job. |
|
Now, both dad and mom must work two or three jobs, the social security net is disappearing so most of them will be doing so until death, and bro and sis must enter the workforce unskilled, because they can't afford tuition to ANY school....The American dream is a fucking FARCE. This ain't America anymore.

6. NYTEMARE, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! |
|
My entire working life has been in food service and retail. Most people don't see the "person" behind the nametag, or have the faintest clue just hard "serving the public" can be. Those who do, like yourself, make the day easier to get through, and help to make up for the morons who think that those who earn their living waiting on others are a lesser life form, and treat us as such. We "servers" recognize and deeply appreciate people like you, believe me. Thanks again!

That part in "Million Dollar Baby" where she picked up a steak left on someone's plate to take home to eat, and told her boss it was for her dog just brought a tear to my eye.

10. Thank you so much, nytemare! |
|
I have spent most of my working life in the service industry (pizza delivery and store checker). It is nice to know that some people appreciate what all of us service workers do!
Take care!

11. Not to mention folks who deliver pizza or Chinese food |
|
They have to actually drive to strangers' houses. It breaks my heart when I give a delivery person a decent tip and they act like it's the Second Coming. I think they get stiffed even more than restaurant wait staff.

13. It all depends on the (pizza store) delivery area as to how much tip $$$ |
|
you make. Some stores are located in better tipping areas than others, although I always got better tips in the, shall we say, "less exclusive" parts of my delivery area. Why? Because, more than likely, those people worked for tips themselves and knew what it meant to be tipped well (and what it was like to live off of your tip money!).
Also, you have to take into account the wear and tear on your car and the cost of gas and insurance, plus just the general risk of being constantly on the road, often during rush hour increases your chances of gettting in an accident. I had a deal worked out with the guys at the local Gyppy Loob to where I would just throw a couple large pizzas at them for a free oil change - which was nice, because I was putting about 3,000 miles a month on my car just driving around and delivering pizza!
I'd go back and drive pizza again, but gas has doubled in price per gallon, and I know the tips have not kept pace! :(

18. Luckily, I was never robbed. |
|
But, I chose a fairly safe delivery area in which to work. There are many stores where I wouldn't work - too unsafe!

People should not have this false sense of entitlement. They are wrong a lot of times.

19. "the customer is always right" is such a bunch of BS!!! |
|
I think it gives customers carte blanche to treat workers like crap, and it dehumanizes and degrades the workers, leaving them powerless to act in their own defense/best interest.
I had a boss who believed that "the customer was always right". No matter what happened, it was ALWAYS the fault of his employees - even if the customer was clearly wrong!
People like that are hell to work for!
