Central Park Zoo's gay penguins.
I think I saw Central Park Zoo's gay penguins. I went to New York this weekend at the spur of the moment and decided to check out the Park's zoo. I'd never really followed the story of the gay penguins but had heard bits and pieces hear and there. I didn't even know that they were in New York. Anyway, I'm checking out the zoo and I end up at the "Penguins and Puffins" exhibit. The penguins are clustered together the way penguins usually are but as I'm walking towards the far end of the tank I noticed two penguins hanging out together, far removed from all the other penguins. I thought it looked unusual but I didn't think too much of it until I mention to a coworker that I'd been to Central Park's zoo and she asks me, "Is that the one with the gay penguins?" I immediately thought of the two penguins that were keeping their distance from the others. I go online and search: Central Park Zoo, gay penguins.
Sure enough that's where they are and their names are Roy and Silo. I think I saw them and didn't even realize it at the time. I should have been paying more attention to the stories about them.

1. Was Jim Dobson and his idiot followers there staging a protest?
Wondering--have there ever been any examples of gay penguins in the wild, or are they really only studied in captivity?

You should have taken photos!

2. No there were no protesters. LOL.
I don't know about gay penguins (or other animals)being studied in the wild. I would think that homosexuality in animals would still occur in the wild where they have their choice of mates. Although Silo and Roy are housed with lots of other penguins they are not interested in any of the females and the females are not interested in them. I definitely want to read more about them now. The next time I go up there I will take pictures.

4. There is a book...
...titled "Biological Exuberance" by Bruce Bagemhil which is all about homosexual behavior in the animal kingdom. Let's just say that it's a pretty thick book.
