Image of Satan Appears on Turtle
http://channels.netscape.com/new/html/live/scoop/ni/3.html?floc=isp-105
<snip>
The A-Dora-ble Pet Shop was destroyed in a horrific fire last October, the cause of which investigators still cannot determine. All the animals in the pet shop were killed--except one. The survivor is a palm-sized red-eared slider turtle named Lucky. And now Lucky has suddenly developed an image of Satan on its shell, report The Frankfort Times and The Associated Press.

At least, pet shop owner Bryan Dora says it's the devil. He told AP that he can see lips, eyes, a goatee, shoulders, and a pair of pointy horns, but notes that Lucky is healthy and his behavior hasn't changed since the odd transformation after the fire. "The marking on the shell was like the devil wanted us to know he was down there," Dora told AP. "To me, it's too coincidental that the only thing to come out unscathed would have this image on it."

He insists the image of Satan was not visible before the fire. So how did it get there now? Dora thinks the fire's intense heat might have caused the shell's color to change. "Turtles can hold their breath quite awhile," Dora explained to AP. "He may have taken one breath just before and held it through the fire. Except that the fire went on and on for hours." It's a mystery.

2. Maybe they should examine it's entrails?
It's as likely to shed light on this as anything else, given their working theory that 'Satan' appeared on the turtle's shell.

9. I can see it
But that's only because I knew what I was looking for. If you weren't told it had an "image of Satan" on it, your brain would never have put the markings together in the specific way that causes the image to form.

It's a psychological thing. You weren't expecting to see anything, so you don't. I was expecting to see something that looked like Satan (note that I don't actually believe that the turtle was possessed, that's just ridiculous,) so I did.

(That probably made no sense. I'm studying for a psych test, cut me some slack ;-) )

6. If we keep allowing hopelessly brain-damaged people to die
natural deaths, this will only keep happening. Vlad the Impaler will appear on a hamster, or Hitler on a skink. Then where will we be? Huh? Huh?

7. Remember that Satan spelled backwards
is natas.

Contemplate that for a couple of hours and see where it takes you

8. Some fundamentalists will buy that turtle and kill it
The pet shop owner is going to auction the turtle to the highest bidder. The way he is discussing what happened, it is as if he believes "Satan" protected the turtle -- making it the only animal to escape the fire unharmed.

Some whacko will buy the damn thing just for the priviledge of killing it.

11. It looks like ET getting humped by a Cardassian.
seriously. I think it means Spielberg will sell Dreamworks to Paramount.

Or we should be ready for an unthinkable sequel.
