The Republican Party of 1860 was not the Republican Party of 2004?
Think that may have something to do with it?

If Lincoln were alive today, he'd be a populist Democrat.

12. I can see him as a Howard dean type |
|
a lot of people forget that Lincoln pissed off RWers far more than Dean. He was a real rabble rouser Hell--11 states seceded because they were so afraid of his progressivism

14. What are you talking about |
|
Lincoln suspend the writ of Habeus Corpus in Maryland, and held innocent people in jail for many days. He also sent the army into Baltimore to keep them from holding a refferendum on Neutrality. He's a good guy, but he did suspend the rights of Americans in his day.

But I would take FDR, Truman, LBJ (minus Vietnam) or Carter over any 20th Century Republican.
Abe Lincoln remains my all time favorite President---because he was a real leader, and a progressive genius in his day.
