Woohoo!!! Just got my new computer all set up... |
|
...and I can't believe how much faster it is. I just rendered an old povray file in less than 1/3 the time - 4 minutes vs 14 minutes! I can't wait to get started on some new scenes now. :headbang:

2.4 GHz Athlon64, dual video cards - now I just have to find the time to get a 64 bit version of Linux installed to REALLY take advantage of it.

Those Athlon 64 chips really fly :). I'm running a 1.8 ghz one, and it beats the pants off of most of the 3.0+ ghz P4 chips I've tested.
Nice stuff :).
I might actually be upgrading soon to the 2.4 as part of a deal I'm doing on building a computer for someone (they get my CPU and some other parts plus the labor in return for the new CPU for me :)).

5. Sounds like a good deal to me! |

My last 3 CPU have been Athlons with MSI motherboards & I've been very happy with them. They have a much better floating point processor than the P4's - very useful for my raytracing hobby. :)

both cremate the shit out of 64-bit windows.
SuSE's is also the fastest 64-bit distro out there.
Fedora may be free, but Novell is ensuring that the money you spend is worth it. SuSE 9.2 impressed me and 9.3's upcoming features are even better than a date!

8. Thinking of going with Gentoo |

I've played with it before & was pretty impressed. It can be a pain to get everything set up, but once you do it's awesome. Nothing like compiling your OS from scratch.
