4 years old and a loose tooth?
Edited on Wed Oct-15-03 06:31 PM by tjdee
Ugh, it's always something.

4 is really young to be losing teeth, isn't it? This particular tooth grew in at 4 months, so okay, LOL, that'd be the first to go....but I was helping brush teeth and I almost had a heart attack when I saw her wiggling it. It's loose, alright. Bottom front.

She's a rough player, sometimes hits her mouth on things, but she's had no pain or anything...I don't even remember if she has hit her mouth lately...

ugh, it *is* always something, isn't it? I was just worried to death a few weeks ago, here we go again! I'm finding that parenting, really, is about worrying to death. :-(

Too-much-stress, need....cheesecake...

Yes, I'm taking her to the dentist as soon as they'll see us.

3. At four though?
Isn't she supposed to lose it at 5 or 6?

I guess I'm so tense because I don't know if she hit her mouth someplace and that's why it's loose. 4 seems young for that.

Eh, I'm guess I am overreacting. This is a stressful time period, and the tooth just shocked me.

Thanks for bringing me down to earth though!

10. seeing the dentist is never a bad idea
I see so many little kids with dental problems because of the bottles in bed, apple juice and water. I encourage all parents to be careful whith their childrens teeth.

2. My son lost his first tooth at 4 1/2; he has a 7 year old friend who's
yet to lose his first one. Vikas is 6 1/2 now. I DOUBT it's anything to worry about, but since you are already seeing the dentist, you are on top of the situation.

Just be prepared, when my son's first tooth came out, all I had was a $20 bill!!! Yikes!

6. She's thrilled about it.
She's already telling me what she's going to buy with the money (even though she's assured me that she *knows* it's not going to be that much)! Oh dear!

Meanwhile, I'm all serious and hyperventilating over the fact that she's got a loose tooth already.

:silly:

13. You can always write a check
:) All I ever got was coins, I think I topped out at 50 cents. I guess our regional tooth fairy was a cheapskate.

5. From DrSpock.com
Losing baby teeth
That first loose tooth can be exciting to some children, but upsetting to others. Children need to be reassured that losing baby teeth is a natural process and that new adult teeth will come in their place. The first tooth to fall out, or exfoliate, is usually one of the lower front teeth. This generally occurs at six to seven years of age, with girls experiencing loose teeth earlier than boys. Up to a year or two earlier or later than this age could be perfectly normal for your child.

Doesn't sound like anything to worry about.

7. Thank you...
I've been googling it, knowing there *has* to be a definitive word on this...but I must have been putting in the wrong words or something.

9. How much does the Tooth Fairy pay today?
Edited on Wed Oct-15-03 06:43 PM by Jonte_1979
A buck?

Has the Bush economy had any impact on tooth retail?

12. I do not know when I lost my 1st baby tooth but lost the last one at 20
Each individual is different. I had congintally missing 2nd teeth so my baby tooth hung in till I was 20 and nothing ever grew in to replace it. So it is not the loss but perhaps the NON loss that should be worrisome??? :bounce:...I LOVE CAREING PARENTS WHO WORRY ABOUT THEIR CHILDREN!!!

14. ITA. A dental exam is a good thing.
It can be very reassuring. Find a kind, pediatric dentist.

It's going to be time to retire it soon. It has worn down a lot.

16. I still have some baby teeth...
Had a permanent tooth break through the baby tooth in college. That's when I discovered I still have several baby teeth with no new teeth behind them. Oops!
