Show love for Mission Of Burma, Wire, and Gang Of Four
If you read any music mags, you probably know the new fad genre is dancepunk, or electroclash, or whatever dumbass name they're saddling it with this week. A lot of this music absolutely sucks, but the best stuff is really good, like The Rapture and Erase Errata and The Faint.

But an added side-benefit of the emergence of this music is the frequent name-checking of three of my favorite bands: Mission of Burma, Wire, and Gang Of Four. In most accounts of punk history, they're just sideshow attractions, but in many ways they contributed a lot more than bands like The Damned or The Buzzcocks ever could have.

So if you own them, break out your copies of Vs., Pink Flag, and Entertainment! and listen to them, or if you don't own them, make it a point to check them out, because if electroclash becomes the new grunge, you'll probably want to check out the originators.

1. I not only own them, I saw all those bands!
I still have the vinyl and have tried to replace them on CD. I saw Mission of Burma all the time in high school. Along with Husker Du, Minor Threat, and X, they were my favorite teenage band.

2. RR, you lucky bastard
I'd give my left nut to see any of those bands in their prime (especially Husker Du and X), but sadly, I was born a decade or so too late.

5. I'm an old punk rocker
I'd give my eye teeth to be your age! I could never stay up to watch these bands now!

6. That's why speed was invented
And I can't imagine someone sleeping through any of these bands sets.

3. At Home He's a Tourist: Gang of 4 lyrics ( I think I saw them in 1979)
at Irving Plaza, nd I saw Mission of Burma, I don't think it was the Mudd Club, maybe Danceteria or Tier 3..... (Oh and I saw one of the Wire Guys solo, or did I? Who would've thought this song would ring more true today then it did then.

At home he feels like a tourist
At home he feels like a tourist
He fills his head with culture
He gives himself an ulcer
He fills his head with culture
He gives himself an ulcer

Down on the disco floor
They make their profit
From the things they sell
To help you cob off
And the rubbers you hide
In your top left pocket

At home she`s looking for interest
At home she`s looking for interest
She said she was ambitious
So she accepts the process
She said she was ambitious
So she accepts the process

Down on the disco floor
They make their profit
From the things they sell
To help you cob off
And the rubbers you hide
In your top left pocket

Two steps forward
(Six steps back)
(Six steps back)
(Six steps back)
(Six steps back)
Small step for him
(Big jump for me)
(Big jump for me)
(Big jump for me)
(Big jump for me)

At home she feels like a tourist
At home she feels like a tourist
She fills her head with culture
She gives herself an ulcer
Why make yourself so anxious
You give yourself an ulcer
