How I set my basement on FIRE.... |
|
Today is a good day to do laundry and stay out of MrG's way. He's connecting and venting a new bathroom fan...so I know to leave well enough alone. Remember how your mother always told you to check your pockets before you put anything in the wash? Well, I never have time for that. I put a load in, washed it and emptied the washer. Lo and behold, there in the bottom of the washer was a lighter from MrG's pocket. I took it out, wiped it off and tried it. It still lit! Lucky day!!! I threw it on the laundry room shelf and went to type up some reports. A few minutes later, MrG asked,"Do you smell something burning?" "No." So we ran through the house. And yes, now I could smell something that smelled like those wood burning kits you had as a child, mixed with something sweet smelling.... I ran back downstairs and there on the laundry room shelf was a good little campfire going in the fabric softener box. I knew I put the fire extinguisher there for a reason. All is well...the house still stands and we've got a really cool spot on the laundry room comp tile floor with melted green plastic on it! I, MrsGrumpy, will check pockets from now on. I was going to go to the store too, instead of typing...I shudder to think.

2. Did you know you can wash your TV remote? |
|
It's a proven fact. I know, cause Miz t. did. She stripped the bed and the remote was on the bed and...
I got home from a trip two days later and we had this new TV remote and so I asked "Why do we have a new TV remote?" and she told me.
I went and got the old one, which had dried out by then, and it worked fine.
So if your TV remote is yucky, just toss it in the washer. ;-)

8. How did the fire actually start? |
|
I re-read you post and can't figure out how the fire started. I'm anxious to know cuz I often wash and dry lighters (unintentionally) and I thought they were pretty safe.

12. I think when I tested the lighter, it didn't shut off. Perhaps the tab got |
|
stuck in the down position after I pressed on it. I'm really not sure.

14. I have washed lighters before, but never had a problem. |
|
Wow. Glad you found it before it got out of hand.
One time I washed my sons clothes and didn't realize he had put crayons in his pocket. Besides having some of our clothes enhanced with color, the inside of my dryer went from white to a nice soft blue.
Glad everything worked out OK.

15. I learned my lesson a long time ago |
|
did not check pockets either. Well, when I took clothes out of the washer one day all my beautiful clothes were crayon marked. My daughter had crayons in her pocket and I didn't check her clothes. It took me hours to get the crayon marks out of the clothing, but did succeed. What a chore!

Glad to hear, things have settled down at the Grumpy house!
I always leave lighters in my clothes!:scared:
I don't like to iron, so I usually just throw the clothes I want to wear in the dryer to fluff them up. SO many times, I find lighters in the dryer after my clothes have finished spinning.
