Poll question: How old were you when you lost your virginity? |
|
Myself, I'd just turned 18. I still remember the exact date.
By the way, this is my first poll, and I hope I do it right. You guys can help me through it though, right? Also, I'm 24 years old. Is that old/weird?

4. Umm. I'm sorry but intimacy is a private matter |
|
not to be trivialized in polls. Sexual intimacy is reserved for those who have made a marriage commitment. If you had sex outside of marriage, you ought to be too embarrassed to admit it. That's my opinion.

Seriously. People do polls here about drugs and all kinds of things and you want to pontificate about "sex outside of marriage"? I'm willing to bet that 90% of the people here view sex as, among other things, the ultimate expression of love between two people. And isn't THAT the ultimate institution?...LOVE?

15. WHOA, when did the nostaligia train drop DU back in the 1940's?? |
|
First and foremost I respect ANYONE who says it's "None of your Business" when it comes to polls like this. No is forcing anyone to take any of these polls including yourself.
You could have stopped with just your subject line I would have respected your choice. But now you've passed moral judgement on others and that IS my business.
Not only am I not embarassed to tell you and everyone at DU that I lost my virginity at age 17, I wouldn't be embarassed to discuss other matters in regards to my sexual pass (outside of naming names, which is unfair to the other party who wouldn't be here to defend themselves).
Second and even more importantly - some of us are NOT marriage minded. I mean some of us would like to be but can't because of antiquated laws thing that man/woman is the only way to commit to one other for a lifetime (or a few years since 1 in every 2 marriages end in divorce) of love. Also, some of us, including myself, have decided to skip the whole marriage thing because it's not something that fits into my lifetime agenda and something I'm very uncomfortable with.
Please, if you're posting at DU, leave the hypocrisy at the door.

I'm not hypocritical. I waited until marriage to have sex. Do you know the definition of hypocrisy? Just wondering.

|
I think that's great.
But you were judging us with the following statement:
If you had sex outside of marriage, you ought to be too embarrassed to admit it. That's my opinion.
Why would should any of us be embarassed to admit it? Your point would have been well respected if you just stuck with what you think was the best choice (waiting until you are married) and not pass judgement on those who choose not to.
The words that passed judgement?
You Ought To Be
Maybe you ought to be embarassed for passing judgement on others who made a choice that was different from yours

42. You probably weren't, but the way you worded it came out as such |
|
Like I said earlier. When you had the phrase You Ought To Be you comments came off as very condescending to those of us who do not practice or follow the catholic belief of only having sex after marriage. You didn't sound like one democrat talking to another but something that my mother would say to me like "You ought to be watching your weight" or "You ought to be eating your vegetables". If I told you "You ought to be embarassed for waiting to have sex when you got married" I would expect you to come at with me the hardest amount of criticism you can manage.
I know you probably never meant to judges others, but that word ought came across as very judgemental.
Maybe it's best we let this one go and move on from there. We have all types of folks here at DU with a wide diversity of beliefs. But that's the beauty of the democratic party is that everyone is welcomed here!!!

assume I am Republican? I'm not. I am a Catholic Democrat. The position of the Catholic Church is the sex is permitted only in the context of married commitment. More than half of all Catholics are Democrat. There is no inconsistency here. Are YOU Republican? Just asking.

I can remember every single one of them from No. 2 to the most recent one (which would be No. 12 for those keeping score at home).
But the first one I just can't remember. I do remember going to the supermarket with her right before we did it and buying a bottle of gatoraide and also having to purchase Gold Coin condoms.
But everything else is a blur.

Hey, I was a virgin, I thought I needed stamina. I had no idea that sex usually last just a couple of minutes. I thought it was something people did for hours on end.
Then of course, she took full advantage of my ignorance and proceeded to have me orally pleasure her for an hour.

My first experience was horrible because I was so scared. I'd been having sexual thoughts since I was eleven, had a powerful sex drive (puberty was a nightmare) and I didn't want to screw things up, so to speak. Well, I did.
It got much better after that, and had some pretty satisfying experiences. My best lover ever has been my wife. We are really tuned in to each other. Life is good.

It was a few days after xmas with my then b/f at the time. I visited him in DC for a few days. We had been teledating since meeting each other in Europe. It was Ok. He was not the right person, though.

Lemme 'splain.
15 was the first time I did the deed with a girl. I felt a lot of guilt about it afterwards due to my upbringing, and it ended up breaking up the relationship--she was out and really had her shit together, and I wasn't. In retrospect I was probably too young. I did enjoy myself though, and it was a learning experience. Those issues got worked through, and I made a much better girlfriend to the next girl. :)
I didn't do anything on the het side of the fence until I was 19. The act itself was wonderful, but like many young women (and older women!) I had the misfortune of being madly in love with a jerk. He broke up with me about an hour afterwards, and it devastated me. I've never completely gotten over it.
As for that post upthread, I respect your beliefs but I'm not embarrassed about anything I've done sexually (well except that one time I slept with a Republican. :spank:). There's no shame in my game. 'Course I belong to what is basically a fertility religion, so go figure. :)
