Would U date someone U met at a family reunion?
even though that person is so far removed that your grandmother only have a vague memory of how you are related?

An acquaintance of mine meet her fiance(they broke up)at a family reunion and it kinda grossed me out.

She was from the southern branch and he was from the northern branch and I believe that their great-grandmothers were 1st cousins.

Would you do it?

4. Not if
I was actually related to them. If they were the spouse or fiance of someone in my family and not related and for some reason we became friends and they broke up with my relative, maybe yes.

But I may have to digress. Anybody who knows my story and knows my pathetic situation wouldn't be surprised if I half joking said yes. Who am I kidding though really? I'd probably do my stepsister at this point if she said she actually liked me that way. I know that sounds bad, but...

5. No.
Unless my name was Luke Skywalker, there's no way I would consider dating a relative.

11. Too weird for me.
No matter how distant, simply knowing it would be an instant erection killer for me. I'm neurotic enough already.

7. Sure, I'd do it
They are far enough removed from each other that there would be no greater chance of harm to their children. And it certainly would not be illegal.

Why not keep the royal blood running in the same tree?

B-)

9. Prince Charles?
British royalty are known for marrying kin, but doesn't Prince Charles look a little touched in the head to you?

8. Fourth cousins hardly have any genetic risk

and some recent studies have suggested even first cousin risks are lower than previously expected though higher than unrelated (or distantly related) people.

14. I'd never marry any of my own family members because they're cuckoo...
But, assuming I had a nice, normal, reasonable, not cuckoo family, and a 4th cousin or something otherwise worked well - and was willing to move outside of the 40 mile radius where they all live (oh, right, not MY family) - sure. At least then you know what skeletons to expect to fall out of the closet.

That said, my second cousin and I, he being gay and me being bi, had a pact as teenagers to marry each other as beards if we hit 32 and 37 and were getting pressure to mate. Fortunately, that was abandoned, and his partner is a welcome part of the family now.

Pcat

15. No
but having done genealogical research for over a quarter of a century, I will tell you that the further back you go, the more people you are related to. If you trace your ancestry back to colonial MA, for example, and you find another researcher who has done the same, it is often the case that you find you are cousins. I've had this happen again and again as I've taught genealogy classes. Colonial MA has some of the best American records, so it is easier to find connections there.

17. The husband of a friend of mine
does geonological research as does his family.... he and his mother found out that they were 9th cousins. Which I don't know what that makes them or whatever but I think if we all of a sudden all new our complete family tree many here on this forum would probably find out they are married to some kind of kin and many here are some type of kin.

My grandparents were first cousins once removed. Yeah, life was different back in the 1920s in rural Pennsylvania

23. My aunt and uncle were first cousins
Edited on Mon Mar-28-05 08:33 AM by WinterStorm
Their kids came out with three arms and two sets of legs. My cousin/aunt/uncle called me recently and told me that the circus outsourced their jobs. Right now they are working in a factory on the assembly line.

They had eight kids and they all came out normal.
