anti-Bush themes in film version of "Sin City" |
|
Edited on Mon Mar-28-05 03:38 PM by villager
Okay, so I saw "Sin City" last week, and while my goal here isn't to write an advance review, I wondered about some of the subtle, and not so subtle, anti-Bush/anti-Right themes in the work, especially the "Yellow Bastard" section.
While I keep up with comics fairly well, and know Miller's work, I hadn't read "Sin City." The plot of a spoiled politician's son literally getting away with murder -- and knowing he can -- seemed to resonate rather startlingly with with the present moment.
Especially later when said politician launches into a tirade about real power coming from getting people to believe a big enough lie, at odds with the truths in their hearts. Once they turn away from what the know is right, the deal, for the corrupt leaders, is sealed.
So: Is this in Miller's original work? (There was some fairly political stuff in "Dark Knight," after all...) Or was the story "updated" for the present moment?

3. Very interesting question. |
|
I hope a knowledgeable person answers. I will check back.
Can't wait to see this movie! Too bad about the violence. I'm liberal about the 1st ammendment, but getting a little fed up with the lack of imagination demonstrated by these goar fests.

we'll credit Miller with the politics then; it's just grown more appropos with present, denuded, debased moment...
