Poll question: Are you or have you ever been a communist?
You know the really depressing thing? I have to say and in all seriousness, in 2005, that if your answer is yes, I strongly advise that you only vote that way in the poll but do NOT say so in a reply. Unless of course you're hopelessly insane like myself in which case it can't possibly be any risk to say, like I frequently do, that I've pretty much been a bomb-throwing Trotskyite from birth. (Well... except for the bomb-throwing part!:D)

Edited on Wed Mar-30-05 05:50 PM by jonnyblitz
I used to read the different marx books with them but I told them I didn't believe the revolution would ever happen because the majority of people would never be with them. I loved hanging out with them and discussing stuff with them but I never became one..

Sure, I'm a Marxist, then it had a picture of the Marx Brothers. Only then I read Marx. So now I like all the Marxes.

I just try to be an ethical consumer, and wish that the money I give to Uncle Sam is used efficiently.

18. communist anarchist?
One of these things doesn't belong. Anarchists advocate an absence of state power, that the state corrupts absolutely. Communists see the state as an appropriate arm of the working class.

Seems to me you need to pick one.

23. No, I mean small "c" communist anarchist
Not Communist (Stalinist State Socialist) anarchist since that would be impossible. I think of the Paris Commune or Spanish Anarchist communes. Maybe it should be spelled commune-ist.

9. I'm a Socialist...
and greatly, GREATLY admire & respect Che Guevara.

Last night I purchased this poster on Amazon.com :

And a Lennon one- it's a face shot (from the side) and has the lyrics of Imagine on it. At least that's what it looks like, the lyrics. Hard to tell when the image is so small, but hey, it's friggin Lennon!

They are both 40x60 in. and will be going straight to my bedroom wall upon arrival. I am considering putting them in our hallway~ but I'm not sure how smart that would be, lol...

Next time I have some free cash there are a couple of other Che posters I want to buy...

I blame the combination of puberty and the Reagan years. If the right was for it--I was agin' it. And vice versa.

16. a Che poster definitely counts as Communist
he was as strict a communist as they come. He was entirely ideologically committed and refused luxuries offered to him when he traveled abroad as an emissary of the Cuban government.

And if you aren't down with Che ideologically, take down that poster and take off the T-shirt. People need to know about the ideology they display on their chest.

BTW, my vote was an unqualified yes, at least for my younger days.

21. On the immigration form for the green card, a similar question:
"Were you a member of the American Socialist Party prior to 1938?"

Since my dad was born somewhat later than that, I wanted to leave it blank, but when I asked, they said I couldn't leave any blanks, so I said no. Go fig. :D

22. No, I am not. I'm an anarcho s... or well you figure it out.
On a side note, my estranged father is an actual Communist. This is bizarre because he loves materialism (and spends money in a manner to prove it) and he likes to read The Times (the paper of the British establishment). Despite all this he still maintains that he's still a Communist today.

Actually I think communists are fine as long as they aren't in power. You need them to fight against oppressive governments, but any type of government that calls for a temporary dictatorship is bound to end up with a permanent one until another revolution comes along.

But as the power of exploitive Capitalism grows I grow more resigned to the only power alternatives.

Basically? I've fucking had it.
