|
Edited on Wed Mar-30-05 09:13 PM by Tesibria

so ... it's all over ... uhm ... all FIVE pairs of my pants.
help???
how do I get it out? They're all jeans or black pants -- I can't use bleach.
Help????

If they were dried, the stains are pretty much set. You can try OxyClean or whatever that stuff is called. I had a friend who did that and had to chuck the clothes.
I hope it works out better for you!

4. Don't cry, just take them out of the dryer now |
|
if you haven't already. If they are at all damp, there might be hope.
Try the OxyClean. I don't THINK it has bleach, but check it first (I'm too lazy to go look at my container!).

I DID that ....
(I heard a weird noise, which is what made me open the dryer -- there are streaks all over the dryer :::sigh:::)
Can't believe it. Just changed... "sizes" ... (thank you stress) and just got 3 pair of pants that actually fit.
now they're .. uhm ... "spotted"
:::sigh:::
I'm gonna try ALL of these suggestions -- THANK YOU.

warm water. Soak for 30 minutes and then wash with solvent and detergent again. :hi:
sometimes if you rub vegetable shortening into the stain (or goo gone) it will remove it.

20. Dawn Dishwashing Detergent |
|
I put Dawn on the spot, let it sit for about twenty minutes, take a brush and scrub and then put in the washer. My spots disappear.
Years ago I had a problem with crayons in the washer and dryer. At that time I didn't have Dawn, but baking soda helped.

9. have you any simple green? |
|
it's a degreaser and lipstick is oil based. I would try that right away in hot water and let it soak. Try not to scrub the spots, it causes fading which can be just as noticable.

(taking a maternal tone)
my kids are notorious for neglecting the emptying of the pockets and quite a few times I've had ruined laundry with ink stains everywhere. The worst though was when I ruined my daughters new 60 dollar silk blouse ( a birthday gift from Bebe or some such store). It was in the wash with an open safety pin, from a pocket of my own shorts. :(

I'm SOO mad at myself -- I really thot I checked them all - had a moment of doubt - and went ahead, thinking "there's nothing there."
I actually ALMOST rechecked, but then didn't. I'm STILL kicking myself. CanNOT believe it.
(This NEVER happened when I had a husband who did the laundry :::stomping:::)

12. This is a trick I learned from my mom |
|
It usually works pretty well.
Use the old style liquid stuff that you refill lighters with. It a solvent and breaks up the lipstick. Then you use dish washing detergent on the smudgy spot. It may take a couple of treatments before the stain is gone. Don't try this on silk!
Note: I've used charcoal lighter recently and it worked, too.

15. you need some kind of de-greaser |
|
if they are dried already you might be screwed, but if you caught it before they went in a de-greaser could get it out. does you husband have any hand cleaner in the garage?

17. Okay, this MIGHT work. |
|
Do you have any Lestoil? (It's a household cleaning product made of petroleum distillates, so not good for anyone. It will, however, remove some stains that might otherwise be hopeless. Use sparingly!)
Apply directly to stain, let set a bit. Launder in hottest water clothes will tolerate.

25. Be careful with the Oxyclean -- it can bleach |
|
if you leave it on too long, or make too strong a solution. Been there, done that ;( On another note - and I learned this living in a place with horrible, horrible water - try to remember to turn all your dark clothes (black and dark blue) inside-out before you toss them in the wash. Helps hold the color (and can save you from some stain issues, also). Apple cider vinegar helps hold the color in darks, too. Good luck.

second guessing is KILLIN me here.
I almost ALWAYS turn them wrong side out - and if I had done that, all would be fine. But no, was in a hurry tonight, so didn't.
Thanx for the trick re: cider - I didn't know that and will try that!

whatever you put on the spot, you have something under that sport or else the spot will get on the other side.
