Adding memory to a laptop - is it really difficult ? |
|
I've added memory to my desktop and it was easy. Somehow the laptop seems more complicated. Is it just as easy ? Thanks in advance.

same thing, only a bit smaller. ;-)
The only thing that would make it difficult is if they memory is not accessible through a panel.

On mine there's just a little panel on the bottom that opens up and two little slots for memory, it's a snap to pop them in. I'd check with your user manual, but it's likely just as easy.

6. If it's easy to get to |

I've seen laptops that simply required you to open a panel to upgrade the memory. I've seen other laptops that practically required a PHd in engineering in order to disassemble the laptop enough to REACH the memory. It really depends on the manufacturer and the model.
Oh, there's also the issue of whether your laptop accepts upgrades. Some lower-end generic laptops have fixed RAM that can't be upgraded at all (not without a soldering iron and a firm grasp of electronic theory anyway).
If your laptop takes upgrades and the slot can be easily reached, the upgrade itself is no different (the chips are shorter, that's about it).
