Why is everything in life bent on destroying our psyches?

The way things are depicted on T.V. The way music has gone to the dogs. The media promotes societal expectations that at least 90% of us cannot meet all of. And yet we are branded as losers if we don't. We have a tendancy to want to put ourselves in boxes and define ourselves and other people based on god knows how many criteria. I mean :wtf:

The article goes on to explain how compulsory education in America got started and what those who helped to start it said about its real purpose. Its a bit on the long side, about 6000 words, but I'm really glad I took the time to read it the other day.
