The Simpsons Avoid Expulsion from Russia
Looks like the fundies are gaining ground in Russia, too.

The Simpsons, the world famous American comic family, was almost expelled from Russia. One of the frequently criticized courts of Moscow blocked that attempt, rejecting all of the plaintiffs demands. REN-TV can continue broadcasting the series in its early evening program. The two and a half-year tug of war is over.

Igor Smykov, a lawyer, requested that the show be banned or at least moved to a late evening time slot. Furthermore, he demanded 300,000 rubles as compensation for the "moral damage" that his son allegedly suffered as a result of watching the Simpsons.

For according to Smykov, the show was a series of horrors: parents are idiots, children are dumb, and everyone constantly talks about sex. His son also took to using vulgar expressions from the Simpsons and didn't understand why he should be punished for it. The poor child suffered from stress.

The cause was the animated series, according to the expert testimony of psychologist Natalya Markova. It propagated a "cult of cruelty and violence" to which pre-school age children were especially susceptible and could suffer serious psychological, spiritual, and moral damage as a result. There is a certain irony to this opinion considering the family programming shown on Russian TV, where rivers of blood flow in the numerous ultra-patriotic crime series. The federal narcotics service then added its opinion. It claimed to have found evidence that the Simpsons ... were also promoting drugs.

1. i thought i read a study
that said the Simpsons mention God and show prayer more than any other show on Television. funny though that the fundies don't like that. Perhaps because the simpsons don't practice their religion in the exact same way the fundies do.

2. you are correct
Religion is a MAJOR theme of The Simpsons- and it isn't that critical of Christianity, just the church. You see the contrasts in characters like Ned and Lisa.

6. i'm mixed
I think he may be too old and fragile, especially after his heart attack. Though there's no doubting that Leo is wise, shrewd, and popular. I do think that it will be a very good race. You should copy that banner into your sig, we gotta show our support!
