yikes, they might stick me with AP Euro in my first year teaching |
|
I start teaching this fall at my old high school. Today, the guy I'm replacing (my mentor. I had him for AP Euro and AP Government) asks me if I'd be interested.
:spray: :woohoo: :headbang:
Would I?!!!!!
Shit, I'd be happy to teach Regular 9th Grade Geography! AP Euro?! In my first year teaching? Man, I thought I'd have to wait 10 years to get to teach a class like that.
Man, he might as well have asked me if I'd like to drive a Porsche as my first car or drink a 2000 Rothschild Bordeaux as my first red.

3. Please do lots of exercises with old AP questions |
|
My best AP teachers in high school gave us AP test questions as homework assignments or test questions. Especially for the DBQ's, cause it's kinda hard to learn the format.
Congrats on the high placement and good luck!

4. that's the plan. I'm definitely taking all of his materials. |
|
Every test I plan on giving will be formatted and worded like the AP test. For most kids, the hard part is getting acclimated with the obfuscated language.

5. Take it and indoctrinate them with socialist ideas |
|
Not for any ideological purpose, really, just piss their parents off more than anything.

7. oh, you don't know where I live!!! |
|
Let me put it this way: There's a line of woods at the end of my street... that's where Pat Robertson's property begins.
At the other end of the woods is Regent University and CBN studios :puke:
wait till I start a chapter of YDs.

Even more fun. A freak-out on a massive scale. That would be righteous.

10. oh, I'm big on reading original documents. |
|
Maybe I'll make them read some autobiographical stuff from socialists, anarchists, labor leaders, atheists, deists, etc. I know I'll get some shit }( oh the possibilities.
seriously though, I'm expecting some parent to object to something being taught. It's inevitable in the bible belt.

12. Congrats. I teach social studies as well. |
|
The cool thing about our subject is we can select amazing stuff like that suggested above and the only indoctrinating we are doing is asking students to question materials and think. Where'd you go to college? Good program?

My architectural firm is working on that right now :puke: I can't imagine why my boss won't let me go up there for a site visit???
I simply refer to this project as the Devil's Lair

14. Are you AP certified? |
|
If not, you should complete the certification process asap. Kids can't get AP credit unless the teacher is AP certified.
I watched this happen in the second largest district in Illinois. My school hired an AP teacher, but didn't check her creds. That was a major blunder when the state AP audit rolled around.
