Poll question: Which of these Presidential assassins is the biggest douchebag?
The 140th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's death is this Friday. In that spirit, I present to you the biggest douchebag poll of Presidential assassins. I would say it would have to be John Wilkes Booth, cause, really, Lincoln's my boy. He'd have been so awesome if he'd served out his term, and we may have avoided the cultural strife between North and South, blue and red that we've had the last 140 years. So for me, it's Booth. What a douche.

John Wilkes Booth, assassin of Abraham Lincoln

Charles J. Guiteau, assassin of James A. Garfield

Leon Czolgosz, assassin of William McKinley

Lee Harvey Oswald, assassin of John F. Kennedy

8. Oswald????? Where have you been for over 40 years? He was a "patsy"

Remember, the jury in the New Orleans case concluded there was a conspiracy, but weren't convinced the CIA creep on trial was part of it.

4. Garfield's doctors had as much to do with killing him

as Guiteau did, probing the president's wounds with unwashed fingers and unsterilized instruments.

How do you think history would have changed if Lincoln survived? Kennedy if Lincoln did live, to clarify?

7. As far as Lincoln is concerned...
He was better suited than Andrew Johnson to deal with the post-war Reconstruction problems. He was FAR more diplomatic, and would be willing to yield on sticky points far easier than would Johnson. Conversely, we may not think as highly of Lincoln as we do today had he lived, for HE may have been the one impeached in 1868 (or sooner) and not Andrew Johnson.

As far as Kennedy is concerned, I think we would not have been as heavily involved in Vietnam, but I also think that he would not have instigated anything resembling the Great Society. I think, and I've said this before, that he would have had a much more difficult time as a Northeasterner in getting comprehensive civil rights legislation passed. Lyndon Johnson was his superior in dealings with the legislative branch, in my opinion. So, no Vietnam, but maybe no (or not as) sweeping social programs or civil rights programs.

6. I don't think Oswald shot anyone.
At best, he's an ALLEGED assassin -- and all the so-called evidence against him collapsed.

Even Dallas police chief Curry said in 1969, "We never could put Oswald in that window."

Which really doesn't matter since the kill shot came from the knoll.

10. For the intents of this poll, Oswald WAS the assassin.
There is no "other" option.

14. Actually, he did us a favor...(Leon Czolgosz )
McKinley was one of the typical robber baron supporting 'Whig' Republicans... While his VP was none other than the last truly great Republican, Teddy Roosevelt.
