That added a new twist to the show for me.
I'm new to the show this season, but I have been really enjoying it. The couple's plight was much more disturbing than anything most of the rest of the characters go through solely due to the fact that they just randomly got sucked into things. Nearly everyone else knows the risks and the dangers that they are getting into when they sign up for CTU or with the terrorists or etc.
Also, I didn't think the husband was going to make it. That little plot element had my heart racing!

10. They sure were sleeping heavy... |
|
The wife walks out of the tent and says to the husband "What are you doing out here honey?" The husband says: "I think I heard something, like an explosion, or something". Meanwhile, the flaming wreckage of Air Force One is like 40 feet from the tent.
Ha ha ha ha ha.

18. I don't think that that was the entire plane |
|
I think that that was just some bits of the wreckage that dropped by their camp site.
They had a full crew examining the wreckage where the President, his son, etc. actually were.
I think that a plane hit by an air-to-air missile from a stealth fighter probably breaks into several pieces in mid-air before it falls to the ground.

4. Jack needs more help out there! |
|
We watch the show and like the suspense, but these folks are really understaffed of something. The nuclear football is fumbling around and we have Jack and one other guy (who gets killed) arrive with their 45's drawn. Why wouldn't they disatch a full commando team with all their HK 9mm assault rifles and nite scopes etc?
Most of the plot lines are absolutely ridiculous. "We can't send a team in till the effects of the Electromagnetic pulse weapon have worn off". Wouldn't that be instantaneous? The pulse takes out the electronics, then its over.
We like the show, but we do laugh all the way through it.

14. They probably have a "red shirt" pool at CTU to see who is going... |
|
...to be Jack's "backup". That's like the most dangerous job in CTU. Invariably you will be shot, killed, lose an arm, get caught in an explosion, or be infected with some horrible virus that will incapacitate you painfully while Jack watches you die and gives you the "sympathy" look.
And yet somehow, Jack manages to walk away with the equivalent of a paper cut.

You go in the field with Jack, you're probably going to get shot, or have your hand cut off, or something horrible will happen to you.

8. Jack's lack of manpower was sort of explained |
|
By the fact that the entire military and police staff were otherwise engaged with the nuclear plants melting down, massive evacuations, security breaches, Air Force One being downed, etc.
The fictional "24" events are a much more well-coordinated and well-orchestrated attack on the US than the real 9/11 was and look how well we were prepared to deal with those events -- which all took place within about 2 hours and didn't involve nukes or widespread evacuations at all.

Air Force One had crashed in the desert, due to a missile fired from the stealth bomber stolen by the traitor (Aryan looking guy, former pilot, I think his name was Andersen). A couple was camping nearby, and found the wreckage, including the nuclear football. They realized what it was and got in touch with the police, who got them in touch with Jack. Meanwhile, Marwan and his terrorists were also looking for the football. They were able to track it due to its transponder, but the camping man broke the transponder as they closed it. However, the terrorists were able to track down the campers, who had gone to a power station to hide, by tracing their cell phone signal. The couple split up in order to keep the football and playbook separate, but the man was caught. After being shot twice, the woman emerged from her hiding spot and gave them the playbook. Jack was able to get there in time to save the couple, but the terrorists got away in 2 jeeps. The CTU/military helicopter shot down one of the jeeps, and Jack was able to find the briefcase with the football. However, the section of the playbook with the location and activation codes of the nuclear warheads was missing. Marwan was seen driving away in the other jeep.
On the political side, the VP was sworn in as President, as the President was in the ER after the crash. He looked like a deer in the headlights, and many people (myself included) think that Palmer will be brought back in to help out.

Thank you! Do you know if anyone died in the crash ... the president's son ... etc? Did they say anything about the president's condition?

I'm not sure if anyone died. My guess would be that his son died, so that they could add some emotional component to it, especially since he only appeared in the last episode. The President was alive, but taken to the ER as he was in bad shape and not capable of governing.

20. Now that the plot seems to revolve |
|
around a nuke warhead, it seems to indicate to me that the plan to set off all the reactors in the country was designed to fail. Otherwiser, there'd be hardly anything inside our country worth nuking left, and that seems to be the goal of the conspirators in order to pull a PNAC MIHOP special. And people say 24 is too right wing, they're following the 9/11 playbook, and showing it from the inside out IMO
