Just saw the "War of the Worlds" trailer at IMdB. WOW!!!
It looks intense. I was reading some of the comments on the message board over there and someone was saying that this movie is going to be like "Independence Day" but done with more seriousness. Those of you who saw "Independence Day" will remember that despite all the death and destruction the movie still maintained an inappropriately light tone. Apparently, that won't be the case with "War of the Worlds". Check out the trailers when you get a chance. The movie premieres on June 29th.

1. I'm excited for it.
I don't think it will win any awards, but who cares, its going to be a fun movie to watch, even with Tom Cruise in it.

Independence day WAS a remake of war of the worlds, this one, like you said, will have a more serious tone...

3. I don't have anything against Tom Cruise but...
...I kinda wish that he wasn't in this movie. When it comes to really fantastical stories like alien invasions I'd rather not look up at the screen and see a very familiar face. It takes something away from the whole experience.

2. It's a good movie for the time just as it was in the 50s
Now, as then, the whole planet's shattered into pieces according to politics - and now, religion -- and we are unable to recognize that we are one world. Only when we face a grave common danger will we see the truth.

I've got high hopes for this film and hope it delivers.

4. I'm of the opinion that some films are just better off never being remade.
I'm going to hold back until after I've seen it, but let's call me skeptical it'll top the original.

Likewise, I'd dread anyone thinking they could remake The Day The Earth Stood Still and "improve" it.

I guess you could call me a purist for the original(s). (I still think Eric Clapton's "Cocaine" sucks...give me J.J. Cale's version anyday.)

Not much of a Spielberg fan, but this looks good.

6. Spielberg seems to be...
...taking a bit of a walk on the dark side lately. They'll be no warm and fuzzy "ET phone home" business in this movie.
