metrosexuality?
Edited on Tue Apr-12-05 04:54 PM by chickenscratching
question here?
metrosexual, is there really a strong metrosexual community?
while one of my friends say it's a common term and group in itself, I totally disagree since i feel it's a way for straight men to 'ha ha' wearing fashionable clothing so they don't feel insecure when they're buddies think they're gay.
really, only gay people wear nice clothes. and all straight men wear bad clothes,
don't ya dare take off that wife beater!, you might be called a homeschuzual!

anyway, so what's the deal?
any thoughts.

2. I just think it is a term for straight guys who care about what
they look like and what is fashionable. I would consider myself metro, but I don't belong to any sort of metro community. My friends still dress like frat boys.

5. I think it's due to competition among males due to...
Edited on Tue Apr-12-05 05:02 PM by LoZoccolo
...the changing roles of women. In the past, men had most of the money, and women tried to get some of that by competing with their looks. But with all the changes we're going through, there are women who really aren't as interested in money because they can make their own, so they can be choosier along other dimensions such as how well a man takes care of himself and dresses.

8. You know what's scary?
Millions of "Gaydars" are going to have to have field upgrades to be able to discern betweens gays and metros. The Chaos, oh, the Chaos!

11. Good gaydars already discriminate between
metrosexuals and homosexuals. It takes far more than the right clothes to set off my gaydar.

16. I don't know what I've got, but it's got 100% accuracy.
And it's SO wasted on me. I'm hetero. What do I need with a finely-tuned, totally accurate gaydar???

But, it's a gift, I guess. I need to get some real-life gay friends so I can help them out, if they have impaired gaydar. Then it will be put to good use.

FWIW, you've never set mine off, even before I knew you were hetero.

I'm batting 1000.

25. Maybe I am the gaydar calibrator
If I set someone's off, it needs a bit of tweeking.

You have no idea how often I have been approached.

27. Mr. Bouncy's been flirted with, stared at, approached, you name it.
The way he takes it is, he's just attractive all around! LOL!

Take it as a compliment, if you can.

Yeah, you might be the calibrator.

9. I think I sort of qualify, I wear nice clothes
I feel like I am asserting myself by dressing properly.

I do receive derogatory comments from 'chav' males and females (the U.S. equivalent of the U.K. 'chav' would be "white trash"). On the otherhand, I receive compliments from respectable people both male and female on what I wear.

around here with your tongue down other guys' throats.

Seems that would count for more than some hair pomade.

15. Vitalis!
I loved using that stuff when I had short hair 'cause it held my hair in place well and smelled like Froot Loops. At least, I thought it did...

12. As far as I know
there isn't really a metrosexual community. They seem to be scattered among members of various groups; they may have a good number of sloppy-dressing friends. My best friend from high school was a metrosexual for his time. We'd pick on him sometimes about it, but he always had better luck with the women than any of us did, so I guess he had his reasons for dressing prissy.

I don't go for it personally, mainly 'cause I don't care about following fashion and thus don't keep up with it. Plus, I like wearing jeans, tennis shoes, and having long hair which all seem to be taboo to metros. I'm not a homophobe, though, and I have no problem with straight guys dressing "nice" even if it's not my thing.

And I'm sick of people saying straight men can't dress and all this other shit...
Some society we're creating.

23. so dressing nice makes me a metrosexual?
:wtf: If I go on a job interview, I can't be dressed in a wife beater tank top and blue jeans (unless t's some car garage or bar) As a straight normal guy, there is NOTHING wrong with looking good :-) BUT i will say also that you can go overboard, like carrying a bunch o skin lotion products in a little man bag. Or going to a salon for an expensive haircut, getting a manicure and pedicure on a regualr basis...I need a new wardobe, but I',m not going to buy shit form say, Prada--now THAT is for Metrosexuals!
