Anybody have Transitions eyeglass lenses? |
|
I need new glasses, and I definitely need new prescription sunglasses. But it's always a pain to carry an extra set around.
Does anybody here have transitions? Do you like them? Do you hate them? Lemme know, please.

1. I've had transition lenses for years and love them. |
|
I have to wear glasses every waking moment of every day because I'm pretty near-sighted. On top of that, my eyes are pretty sensitive to the sun. So transition lenses have been the way to go for me.
The upside: you don't have to carry sunglasses/regular glasses around while you wear the other pair. My glasses are plastic lenses yet change from dark to light and vice versa pretty quickly. When I'm in the sun they get very dark.
The downside: they make your lenses significantly more expensive and, since cars have UV protection on windshields, they don't work as well as I'd like while I'm driving. I used to wear clip-ons when I was in the car but I find that in my new car I don't need them.
Good luck in making your decision.

3. You're just taken by that fine guy in the transitions commercial. |
|
He reminds me of my fine bi exboyfriend. Seriously, he does. He makes me want to go get some transitions. :D

12. That commercial's always given me the willies. |
|
When the glasses go dark, I can't help thinking their eyes are being burnt out, right down to the sockets.

4. Last time I had them, they went to a dark dark grey in the sun. |
|
I don't know if anything has changed; I would prefer a really dark brown. As far as function, though, they worked fine.
I like funky sunglasses but prefer professional-looking eyeglasses, so I wear separate pairs now anyway (when I do wear them).

5. Love em, always get em. |

No down side. Very necessary for me. I cook outside, plan on keeping my vision for a long while so appreciate the UV protection thank you very much.

6. I hear they are pretty decent |
|
but they don't seem to change totally clear after you've had them a while. Faint perma-tint. Also screw you up a bit when driving into dark tunnels, when the light is bright.
But the benefits seem to outweigh all that and you don't even notice that they are doing their thing unless you catch a glimpse of yourself in a mirror.

They didn't change fast enough for me when I went indoors.
I have the magnetic clip on sunglasses now. I love them.

11. Couldn't live without them. |
|
OK so that's an exaggeration but I really like them.
Now PROGRESSIVE lenses, that's a different story. The eye doctor prescribed them for me now that I'm officially an old fart but I couldn't get used to them so I made them change me back to single focus.

13. I have both Progressive and Transition |
|
I love them both. I wear my glasses for everything and need either bifocals or progressives. I hate bifocals - it's such a glaring difference between top and bottom while the progressives have a number of subtle changes as your eyes move up and down. I like them a lot.
And I love the Transitions. I can't afford both prescription glasses and prescription sunglasses and I don't like changing all the time. I find they work very well.
