13 pounds but still too small

"T.J. Watreas can imagine the fame that catching a state-record Missouri bass might bring.

He came close in mid-March when he landed a giant largemouth at a strip pit and became an immediate celebrity.

...

There was a crowd waiting to see that fish. Kids on bikes were even coming up with cameras, wanting to get a picture.”

The excitement that largemouth bass created was understandable. The giant weighed 13 pounds, 3 ounces, one of the largest bass ever caught in the state."

That is a big fish. Check out the picture.

4. In the story the angler said he was going to release the fish.
But it was hooked through the gills and died. So he did not intentionally kill the fish.

6. People fish wrong
If they threw back the big ones, and kept the smaller ones, we'd end up with a lot more bigger fish.

Natural Selection is a wonderful thing...

(and while I'm at it, we hunt deer the wrong way, too...same reason).

9. unless your from vietnam
I usually have a lot of positive things to say about those of asian ancestry in general, but when I used to pier fish for spanish mackerel and bonita in California as a kid, I used to hate how asians fished.

They'd keep anything, of any size, that they landed on hook and line. I was always a big proponent of letting the little fish grow up, but the asian fishermen would keep buckets full of little more than baitfish mackerel with no respect for number or size limits on fish.

No wonder the world's oceans are being fished dry.

because of commercial fishermen. Sport anglers don't make that much of a dent. And all states have limits on certain size fish and they are strictly enforced.

13. Unfortunately there are not enough game wardens
It is pretty easy not to get caught. I have never seen an Illinois game warden and never have been asked for my fishing license. However, I suspect the way to guarantee getting caught is not buying a fishing license.

11. Meat hogs
It pisses me off. I am not much of a fish eater but I love fishing. I keep dinner. If I kill a fish I am sure going to eat it.

I fish for salmon on the Chicago lakefront a lot. I remember a guy caught two, kept fishing, and I saw him throw the fish in the garbage on the way to his car a few hours later.

There are a lot of poor folks who eat what they catch. Just ask around and someone will take your catch.

14. It's not just asians friend
There are lots of people of all ethnic backgrounds who routinely violate fishing regs. Hell, I live in Missouri, the home of fishing with dynamite and dogfood:eyes: And yes, these so called "fishermen" also keep anything of any size.
