If you use a glue trap for mice, you're sick and I hate you. |
|
No offense. :sarcasm:
I just saw two little meeces struggling on a glue trap on my way into work this morning, and I'm conscience stricken that I didn't stop to rescue them.
If you have a mouse problem, get a cat (one you keep indoors of course), or just fast-acting poison, if you must. But why torture the little critters just because you're too chicken shit to care what happens to them and too monstrous to do the right thing?
No offense. :sarcasm:

dissolves the glue on the trap and won't hurt the meeses. Take the little fellas to a nearby park and sing "Born Free"

it's fast and more humane.
I'm too much of a softie to poison 'em - I have a cage trap for rats and mice and release them out by the lake. I'm probably feeding stray cats and feral songbirds. Shoot me.
on edit: cool about the veggie oil. I didn't know you could dissolve that stuff.

Or does it make them too slippery to catch?

that did not allow pets when I got there. I did have some mice visiting my pantry. I did use glue traps for a short time. Once, I caught a mouse in one, I had no idea what to do with it and had such guilt watching it struggle in the glue. I finally placed the trap in a plastic bag. To attempt to alieviate the pain, I placed a cotton ball soaked in Ouzo next to the mouse's nose before closing the bag, since I had no ether available. It was the only thing I could think of to do.
I then convinced my landlord to allow me to get a cat. Problem was solved.

That's what cats are for, really. It's why the Egyptians revered them. They're actually useful beings, as well as darn cute ones.

used to just sit there with the mousy tail just hanging out of her mouth...i could see her cheeks jiggling as the live mouse struggled... she would pop the mouse out onto the floor and play with it....then put the mouse back in its mouth...goood kitty

9. There is no rescue for stuck mice. |
|
Once they get on the glue they can't get off- ever. I am guilty of using the glue trap once when a momma mouse had her litter in my kitchen. I caught one and felt so bad about it I threw the rest of the traps away. I did end the poor things life quickly but I decided I would never buy the traps again. I ended up using those little have a heart traps and caught a total of 12 mouses (including momma) I took them out to a state park near me and released them.

I don't even like remembering it. I felt so helpless. And cruel. Today I have a Scottie who is a mouser; or I've used the old-fashioned spring traps; or what worked best of all was rehabbing the kitchen last year and closing off the entry points :)

19. sorry my respiratory health comes before the wellbeing of rodents |
|
The doctor doesn't allow me to keep cats and dogs. I have no problem with trapping and killing mice and rats. They are rodents. They carry disease, including diseases that kill people. If they don't want to be trapped, they can live outdoors like nature intended. If that makes me a hard-hearted SOB, I'll wear the name proudly. Roof rats that some people think are cute little mices because they're so much smaller than Norway rats tore the heads off two of my birds and killed them. The safety of me and mine comes before the safety of vermin. People who are live-trapping vermin and transplanting them onto other people's property (and no doubt merrily spreading disease along the way) are doing a lot of harm -- and all to feed their ego, so they can pat themselves on the back about what good people they are.
Me, I'll stick with being an evil person that does the right thing even though it's difficult. Being a good person who does evil things like live-trapping and transporting rodents strikes me as just a bit too self-congratulatory for my tastes. And any mice or rats on my property will be dealt with. No one in the suburbs or countryside wants your unwanted live-trapped rodents, any more than we want your released feral cats, dogs, rabbits, squirrels, raccoons, sheesh, did I leave anything out?
Spreading disease is not cool and it is not kind.
OK, rant over. Sorry about that. But catch and release is for fish, ya'll.

21. Have you ever seen one dead from poison standing up on it's hind feet? |
|
It was the most disgusting thing. Ewwwwwwwwww. It was right in front of our pop machine at work, in our tiny little lunch room.
That place had them so bad, that some of the other women named them. I got fed up the day that I went to throw away something in the trash can and all I saw was this gray blob jumping in my face. Combine that with having to wash down the eating area and sink area everyday because of mouse poop and pee because everyone else seemed to be quite content to eat around mouse turds. Took me a while, but I finally was able to convince the plant manager to allow some rat/mouse poison.

|
I've had them catch the mouse or rat wrong, and it's still alive when I check the trap. Ewwww. Then comes the head-bashing and removal. But it's still better than spreading poison around and having them go off and rot somewhere. And way, way, way better than trapping them and setting them "free" to become somebody else's problem.

25. Oh GOOD thinking. MUCH better to let a cat chew them, break their little |
|
backs, and gnaw their little legs off while they're still alive!
AND THEN you have to clean the fucking litter box; keep fleas off the fucking cat; keep the fucking cat from shredding every item in your house and from shitting in the neighbor's yard AFTER you spend $100 getting it spayed and nuetered.
Thanks. I'll use the snap traps in the box that I don't have to see the little mousie squirming that kill the little rodent instantly instead. Tad easier.

30. ugghhh i had to kill a mouse once because of one of those |
|
i was in DC, staying with this kid for a night who worked for the same organization as me (though the DC chapter)...his roommate had set out a couple of those traps and we heard a squeaking...
i took him outside and it took a long time to get him off, finally he ran off but was so covered in the glue he couldn't move; just stuck in the grass
so i found a big rock and...well that's it
i figured it was better than just letting him sit there stuck in a bunch of grass...his entire belly was covered
