Poll question: Espionage thriller authors. |
There are three that I really got into. Ian Fleming. John Le Carre. Len Deighton. Whose your spy author?

3. LeCarré. Such a polished style. |
His writing is bar none the best among spy novelists.

6. Partial to Fleming, myself. |
I find the contrast with the films interesting. Fleming's Bond is a rather different character than the James Bond most people know. Seems a much more solitary and lonelier character, who gambles and chases women because his life outside of his work is empty, meaningless, and dull...the books also seem to have a generally darker tone. Some of Fleming's racial sterotypes are apalling, to modern sensibilities, but not that uncommon in the context of his times.

11. The James Bond novels are wonderful to reread. They are far better |
than the films. Not only some racism but Fleming had a certain way with the women too that was more prevalent then.

8. Does Robert Ludlum count? |
I read several of his books, they were really fast-paced. And Ludlum never thought twice about killing off a major character.

14. I'm surprised Len Deighton hasn't got any votes yet. Michael Caine |
starred in several films based on one of his characters, Harry Palmer.
