Recombinant pop culture II: Improbable musical genres, eg Rapgrass
which is to say rap and bluegrass.

This is all deutsey's fault for suggesting skiffle music and hiphop be combined to form skifflehop on my Worst Effect of the British Invasion poll. Let's see: what would Lawrence Welk heavy metal be called? Champagne metal? Dunno; run with it.

2. Rapgrass is not so unlikely...........
There is a bluegrass version of "Gin 'N Juice" by The Gourds, a band out of Texas.

5. Tejano....
Polkas with Spanish lyrics. Add a few cumbias for spice. Then let Esteban "Steve" Jordan give it a psychedelic twist.

From Texas, where pop culture keeps recombinating.

6. Hillbilly Punk
Edited on Mon Apr-18-05 03:28 PM by dbt
Been playing it in Little Rock bars for the last seven years or so. NB: Big & Rich, through their man Cowboy Troy, have been promoting Hick-Hop recently. Let the record reflect that they nicked this term from me!

13. Actually, my brother played in a bluegrass band in Boston for some years
called Bluegrass MutantEars. Except for doing the hillbilly version of Anarchy in the UK, which I think everybody does, they mainly played straight bluegrass but played it mainly in punk venues.

17. "Country-Metal"
as exemplified by me and my friends' fictional band "The Gothik Hillbillies." We pictured them as kind of a Slipknot meets Asleep at the Wheel!
