Which forthcoming movie would you rather see tank, Crowe's or Cruise's? |
|
Braveheart Goes To Sea, or The Karate Kid: The Prequel? I want to see Crowe's sink (as it were), since it has a subtitle, implying they're planning a series.
"Both" is an acceptable answer, or suggest other flicks you'd like to see bomb. I would say "Jersey Girl," but even though I'm not the greatest admirer of Kevin Smith, he doesn't deserve to go down the drain with Ben/Jen just for being loyal to Affleck.

5. The Sylvia Plath flick with Gwyneth Paltrow. |
|
Edited on Mon Oct-20-03 03:43 PM by tjdee
Gwyneth is alright, but she is NOT an Oscar caliber actress, and it really really really really IRKS me that a)she's got one, and b)she'll get nominated again for Sylvia and have to fight it out with Nicole Kidman (Cold Mountain). I hope a third gal has serious chances, because both of them get on my nerves.
Plus, Sylvia and Ted's daughter is not a fan of this picture, so much so that she would not give permission for them to use Sylvia's poetry (this may have changed, but I doubt it). I must say, there is something very rubbernecking/train wreck about it, as Plath did leave two small children to discover that their mother put her head in an oven.
Tom Cruise, scientologist though he is, picks really crowd pleasing projects that have "hit" written all over them. I'll be seeing his film. I am completely baffled as to why Crowe would choose a flick like that, looks really boring IMO.

6. Don't even mention Nicole Kidman's name around me!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I still can't sleep knowing she got an Oscar!
I agree that Gwenyth is a lightweight, but at least she has some talent! Nicole is a laughably bad actress!

I can't think of even one compelling character Paltrow has created, nor can I understand how anyone can be upset Kidman took an award after giving no less than three highly memorable screen performances (I still haven't seen The Hours, but her work in MR, TDF, and EWS were all top-notch), especially when Gwyneth herself took the statue for such a featherweight piece of work in the same year Kate Blanchett blazed with "Elizabeth."

Kidman was fantastic in "To Die For" The movie itself was surprisingly fantastic (since I truly hate everything else by Van Zant)

Not sure if for Veronica Guerin or The Missing, probably Veronica Guerin. If she doesn't cancel herself out.

Cate (or however you speall it) is absolutely wonderful--she's got this fierceness about her, I always enjoy her work... I dunno though, I wonder if either of those projects will lobby for it as much as the studios will for Gwyneth "Steven Spielberg is my godfather" Paltrow and Nicole Kidman.

I just don't get the appeal of Kidman, I just don't.
Gee, what film can she play the ice queen in next? The ice queen who falls in love with that dangerous dangerous race car driver. The ice queen who wants to be a famous journalist. The ice queen who falls in love and dies. The ice queen who watches children and is frightened! And for the Oscar, the beautiful ice queen dons a fake nose and becomes ugly! That takes real acting! No wonder she won for it...good god, I hear she's doing a film with Anthony Hopkins where she plays a maid (and has reddish brown hair)...I bet that will go over as well as Gwyneth playing the poor girl (oh wait--that hasn't happened).

16. It's such a joke--she won mainly because she broke up with Tom |
|
I kept seeing interviews with her where she said the break-up helped her so much with the role.
What a farce--it's all a publicity campaign--most people who vote didn't even see the damn movie!
And it's not like she even gave a competent performance--she was bloody awful!

8. I think Cruise's project looks ridiculous |
|
him as samurai warrior? :wtf:
Crowe, I dislike him quite a bit, though usually enjoy the movies he is in.
And I cried when i read about Jersey Girl and Kevin Smith defiling his work with J-Lo.
So Cruise basically...the man looks like a weasel and can't act his way out of a soupdish

I think?? I don't believe he's "the samurai". He's a Union soldier who...umm...does some stuff...wants to play with the...um...swords....??
I'm always interested in historical flicks....and my opinion of Cruise has gone up, as I've said before, after Mission Impossible. And, exponentially, since he got rid of Kidman.

19. I saw the trailer for Cruise's samurai movie |
|
yesterday. Looked absolutely inane. Cruise, in the trailer, was completely unbelievable. Looked like an older male model; had on his "serious" Cruise acting face. Steely eyes and set jaw. I can't imagine what kind of crime I'd commit to get sentenced to that movie. Also saw the trailer for Crowe's film. The cinematography looks incredible.

I'm still furious with him for taking the part of Lestat in Interview with the Vampire. Even though Queen of the Damned was just blah, Stuart Townsend was perfect for the role.
As mentioned above, Cruise as a Samurai warrior, yah right.

he was WONDERFUL as Hornblower, almost up to the caliber of Sean Bean as Richard Sharpe.
I wish they'd done Patrick O'Brian's books as a TV series like the above two instead of a Hollywood movie. But I'll differ from most in being an admirer of Russell Crowe's - don't see how anyone could see L.A. Confidential and not be just absolutely blown away by his performance. Ditto The Insider.
