Poll question: Which pop star(s) need(s) to retire? |
|
Continuing the Monday negativity theme... I promise I'll cut it out now. Practically apropos of nothing, here's a funny article I found while googling to come up with #6: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/3146753.stm(Jagger makes worst artist list)

25. Stewart with Beck Group or Rod's Big Band Sound ? - You Decide! |
|
I nearly wet my pants laughing at the recent Rod Stewart TV special.
I think it was called 'American Songbook'.
There was Rod, in Tuxedo, crooning the standards with his big band.
It was atrocious!

if she doesn't get out now its going to be a long, agonizing, thirty year spiral into anonymity and mediocrity. I mean, just anonymity.

I loved them on their recent tour but really shouldn't Mick get out of it before he needs a cane?

16. I just saw them in concert |
|
And they are far from being ready to retire.
Lindsey rocked the joint, Mick jammed like a wildman and Stevie's voice was angelic.
I hope to see them again some day.

If you've gotta tongue with Spears and Aguliara to get some publicity you need to step aside.

She is the best example that musicians don't need talent to make it these days!

is the only one I like. I never imagined I'd like any of her music, but I'm obsessed with "American Life". Now I'm hoping she keeps going.

15. Rod Steward (Like Michael Bolton) Don't Sing.. They SCREAM |
|
I'm sure that some folks may find raspy phlegmy voices sexy and attractive, but I don't. It just makes me want to continually CLEAR my on throat in some subconscious and reflexive effort to make the sounds go away.

... creating great rock/punk/pop'electronic music is a young persons game. It is rare to see anyone over 40 do anything noteworthy, practically nonexistent once they are over 50.
Many of my former musical heroes are still releasing records, but the fire and passion and inventiveness and risktaking that are all required to produce timeless music are simply not there. I sometimes wonder why they continue, but then at some level I understand, it is all they know.
I guess I could make one notable exception. It is said that Aerosmith still puts on a hellacious performance, if you like that sort of thing :)
Luckily, *enjoying* music doesn't seem to have an age limit.
So that's my answer, over 50, it's all but hopeless :)
