Okay, seriously- Would it be wrong for me to sell prayers to fundies |
|
online?
I could set up a website or do it on Ebay.
But I'd really do it. For a certain amount of money (could be a flat fee, could be an auction), I'd say a prayer for them. It could be a prayer that I wrote, or a special prayer that they like.
I believe in God, too. Not the Biblical God, not Jesus as the Son of God. But I DO believe in God. I wouldn't give the impression on the website that I was any kind of preacher or real Christian. And I think prayer could have some good affect on people. I mean, I can't say for sure, but it sure doesn't hurt, and positive thinking is good. Wouldn't praying for people be a good thing?
I'd be doing exactly what they wanted. No fraud.
My girlfriend still says this is a dishonest idea, though, that I'd be taking advantage of stupid people.
What do you think?

1. I doubt you'll make any money |
|
But if you do, it won't be from fundamentalists. It will be from very unhappy people desperate for some sort of consolation in their lives. Think about whether you want to make money that way.

Not sure if I'd totally agree with your statement. I mean, look at the people buying the Jesus-shaped chicken nuggets for a couple hundred dollars and whatnot. They wouldn't buy prayers? And they're not unhappy.
On edit: Besides- what if I helped them? What if it makes them feel better?
How could prayer be a bad thing?

Prayer is communion with God. That is the point of it. People pray for themselves, those they love, and members of their church. If someone is paying someone to pray for them, it tells me they are very unhappy and terribly lonely.

5. Well, if it's what they want to do... |
|
If they feel they need it, and they have to pay someone to do it, why should I stop them?

6. you asked if it is wrong |

One can make money in all kinds of ways. Some of those ways are exploitive and some are not. In my opinion, this would be.

7. I think I have to agree that it's exploitative, from my side. |

However, I'm still not sure that it's truly a "bad" thing...

11. i respectfully disagree with imenja |

i don't see how its any different from someone slipping a $10 bill in the offering plate, which also seems to be a quid pro quo for assisted communion with god.
I say go for it - you'll be no worse in my eyes than the curch.
And also, something about fools and money....

...I've often thought of ways I could capitalize off these schmucks. I only wish I'd had the balls to do half the stuff I've thought of before. Go for it.
On edit: Of course, you will have to look at yourself in the mirror, which is probably the reason I haven't been able to do it...

As long as you're sure you're selling to fundies...

9. Yeah, that would be the worst part. |

I'd basically be one of those guys.
But, you know, on the other hand, I could also see getting some satisfaction out of it.
