Take this job and shove it.--I need some advice. |
|
Edited on Thu Apr-21-05 08:37 PM by Sannum
That is so what I want to say now. After being almost robbed and then being told by the boss that I did not follow the proper procedure (I called security and the police first--then the boss..they said it should have been the other way around), constantly have my character defamed and demeaned by the higher ups for no paticular reason other than the fact that I am not bilingual, not get payed on time and then having my check bounce and having to change banks because the old one would not take checks from the company, I now am being blamed for missing items. Keep in mind I have not been to work in 6 days because I only get 12 hours a week, but I can't do anything but tell the truth that I don't know where the items are. They didn't accuse me personally of course...they just spread around the rumor that I stole the items to everyone in the company and then it got to me. I don't know what to do. I am frightened, exhausted, angry, frustrated and crying right now. I don't know why I was singled out and I don't know what to do. I did not take any items. I have never stolen anything before and I am not about to start now.
I don't know what to do. I would jump off a bridge, but I know that I am innocent. These people are robbing me of my sanity.

They're setting you up to fire you. Have you complained to the state about your paychecks bouncing yet?
A bounced paycheck means the company is going down. It could be a few weeks or months, but the doors will be closing permanently. Get out, get out, get out. (I've been there when paychecks bounced, it never gets better.) Complain to the state to get your money.

I eventually got my money, but I am wondering if this could be payback for reporting them? Not just fire me, but try to trump up some theft charges while they are at it.
I have given out 40 resumes around the city this week alone. I hope to god I can find another job soon.

And yes, they're probably trying to pay you back, but then that's also a reportable offense. Ahh, they'll never learn.
Keep a journal off all these events. Write down when you reported them, and to whom, and then the subsequent actions of your employer and also try and get statements from trustworthy co-workers stating you didn't steal anything. This may help if they do try and trump up charges against you. But, don't let them know you're keeping such a journal, and don't take it to work, as they may try and steal it from you.
Good luck on finding a new job. If you lived near me I'd be out there helping with your resumes. :hi:
I went from a situation where my paychecks bounced to a great family owned company. I'm treated better here than at any other job I've ever had. I love it here. So try and look on the bright side, there maybe a really awesome job in the near future. :)

I know I am right and they are wrong. This is just a very, very bizarre situation.
I am documenting everything, and I have co-workers who know that I have not done anything and who will stand up for me. I was not even in the state when they accused me of taking one thing!
I just updated my resume and I am also reporting this as well. I called Cristina back after she called me, and I think that I was firm and calm while inside I was just shaking. She has not called me back, so she is either a coward or she is just keeping me up worrying.
I was told that retail was like this. That is why I am now looking for a receptionist position. So, if anyone is looking for a receptionist in the Chicagoland area, feel free to PM me and I will send my CV.

8. Too bad you're not down here |

I've been trying to get rid of the daytime receptionist (I'm the nighttime). I work at a car dealership, and it's the easiest job on earth, so send some that way too. (And as a bonus, they'll give you a good discount on a car if you need one). Or they also have cashiers, which are also easy good jobs.
Good Luck again.

I just glanced at your profile and we used to live in the same city! I moved up here about two years ago.
Thanks for the good luck wishes! In the * economy, getting another job is next to impossible...

10. Yeah I lucked into my job here |
|
I quit the coffee house I was working at (bounced paychecks) and had a friend that sold cars here. The previous receptionist had just quit, and since I had a friend, I had an automatic in for the job. I was really lucky.

5. Go to your state employment commission |
|
and ask them...keep a journal, they cannot fire you for theft without proof, you can fight that and it would go down as an illegal firing...ask the commission if you can get unemployment while looking for a better position or file harrassment charges...
Seeing you only get 12 hrs. a week, you should be able to find something else in a reasonable time frame, I don't think you can get unemployment for only part-time work...here it has to be over 30 hrs a week at least..
And the others are right, get out of there, when company checks bounce they are going down...
