Okay, super-dumb question about Word. |
|
I swear, I don't get Microsoft products.
Yes, I'm the dumbest person ever. I know.
I've used Mac forever, and I don't know shit about sharing documents.
I have a set of Word documents that I have to send to a PC. How do I insert page numbers, not just paginating (I need to insert something like: page 1 of 29) into a Word document? Please, keyboard shortcuts are not necessarily transferable.
Thanks for not judging me.
Yes, I know I'm a dumbass.

because I have no idea, and I am not really sure what you just asked. Anyway, doesn't everyone know that the BIRD is the word?
Why would anybody want page numbers anyway?

2. do you mean a footnote type insert? or |
|
actually insert a page into an existing document?
(not a stupid question, and you are not a dumbass!)

3. You can insert a header that automatically includes a page number |
|
I think it's under the "view" menu, like
View Header and Footer
A separate toolbar will pop up with various tools on it, and on the page the header box will pop up. Type Page of 29, then put the cursor back after Page and hit the # button on the toolbar.
Hope that helps.

9. Yep, it's under the "view" menu |
|
under Header and Footer.
The cute little menu comes up, but I cannot figure out how to apply it to the entire document.
I am a cavewoman.
But I will keep trying, and you have been of great help! Thanks!

you can choose "View" from the top menu and then turn off the "entire screen" function, and "Page X out of Y" will be displayed at the very bottom.

figure something in word. I had to call and find out how to get the ruler in Word the first day I had my computer. I know what you what to do, and I've had a rekkie around Word. I think the thing about a lot of MS, is you have to already know how to use it, before you can use it. If THAT makes any sense.
On mine it's View > header and footer > Insert Auto text > Page X of Y On Edit: Then it automatically figures how many pages in the document and what number to put on each page. If you add pages, it automatically changes stuff

17. No you were very clear, I knew exactly what you wanted to do |
|
I just could not get past 'insert page number'. I knew this behemoth Word HAD to accommodate your request. What stupid bullshit to make the path be that obtuse. I would have never thought to check 'View'
Thanks for the compliment!

18. I think you need to automate the page numbering....very easy to do. |
|
there's nothing worse than manually numbering pages "1 of 29" and then having someone change a couple of lines so that your numbering is out....
Select View, Header and Footer. (I.e. Click on the View dropdown menu and then select Header and Footer on that list). You should now be looking at the page in Header and Footer view, and the Header and Footer menu bar will have appeared.
Scroll down the page and click in the Footer box at the bottom.
On the Header and Footer menu bar, click the Insert Autotext button.
This will give you another drop down menu.....the last choice on this menu is "Page X of Y".....Click that button and it will automatically insert this information in your footer at the bottom of each page.
You can highlight the "Page X of Y" and change the font, size etc. as per normal text, and you can centre or right justify it too. It will automatically update with the right number of pages (but bear in mind you will only see the updated numbers after you save it and reopen it).
