1. He's asking you to support the bill? |
|
I'd add him/her to your spam list. :)

2. Having a different opinion should not |
|
mean offending the freeper. It is simply a different opinion. So if the freeper can't take that and it is an offense that is his/her problem.

3. Ignore the request, if you don't want to offend directly. |
|
And send a separate message to your Senator stating your view, if you're so inclined.
No one -- even your maiden aunt -- has a right to force you to express a political opinion. If you have a relationship with this person, you've probably had to deal with this nonsense before, so do whatever worked last time (short of going limp).

to do all of the above.
I live in crazy red f*cking JOklahoma. Calling senators Coburn or Inhofe is just about as effective as flapping my wings and trying to fly.
The freeper in question has fundie tendancies and equates GOP with God's Own Party. In the past, reason has been spectacularly ineffective.
How long do you think it will take the freeper to realize s/he has been unsubscribed from the mail list at the Center for Reclaiming America?

5. I'm guessing an employment situation exists |
|
I picked # 1. You can legitimately report (if specifically asked) that you DID contact your senator, AND you can do a good thing for your own political conscience.
I had to spend some time w/business-related repubs this weekend. Topics arose. I stayed silent, but DETERMINED not to nod head in polite agreement with their uninformed ignorance. Just stared back at them in blank silence. They got the subtle msg to change the subject w/out me ever having to put forth an opposing opinion. I'm sure they don't know exactly where I stand, and in a VERY sensitive biz arrangement, that is how I prefer it.
Good luck.
