Microsoft to introduce 'black box' into Windows, claiming understanding |

computer crashes. :eyes: http://news.zdnet.com/2100-9588-5684051.htmlSEATTLE--In a move that could rankle privacy advocates, Microsoft said Monday that it is adding the PC equivalent of a flight data recorder to the next version of Windows, in an effort to better understand and prevent computer crashes. My response: These are what causes computer crashes, do I get a bonus for saying these?
* Poorly written software * software that uses resources sloppily (see poorly written software) * software that doesn't terminate its own processes (see poorly written software) * software that uses dynamic library files; files updated by other programs (you know, DLL files. Microsoft made this concept claiming it would end incompatibility problems. Hmmm, seems to have made things worse...) * a heavily fragemented hard drive. * a fragmented page/virtual memory file. * corrupt data on the hard drive due to power outage or forcibly terminated app * Software engineered with a centralized, "all eggs in one basket" registry. * Software with 'activation' subsystems that are not reliable and only cause havoc with genuine customers; the bulk of the piracy is in Asia - you know, the country where all of America's jobs are going. * hardware not made with redundancy checking in mind (even servers have ECC in their RAM modules to ensure data integrity.) * failing hardware. * overheating hardware. * overclocked hardware. * viruses * trojans * excessive spyware * end users who don't bother to clean up their cache and temp folders.
How much further to I need to go before my point becomes clear?
Sorry, but their excuse of "investigating and understanding software crashes" doesn't cut any ice for this intrusion of privacy. Indeed, it's a load of bunk!! Nor would anybody over the age of 3 with even one functioning braincell be bamboozled by this obvious garbagespeak of theirs. Posted by: HypnoToad Posted on: 04/26/05

1. Yet another reason to switch to Linux |
|
As if foreign governments and people don't have enough reason already to not use Windows.

2. Some still want to retain microsoft-centric tools. |
|
Bit of a pity, just proves their naivity.

But do it soon, because this won't escape Jobs's notice for long.

4. Why spend $1200 when $100 (or $0) is all that's needed? |
|
That's my real issue with Macs. They are not competitive in price, despite seeing advanced features like the SCSI architecture go down the drain, for no price cut on our end.
