Hey. I'm I long time lurker, occasional poster.
I've been having a really heated discussion with a republican friend of mine about the Chickenhawk database. He insists it's obviously not fair because CLEARLY the Dem's record is just as bad. I know this isn't the case, but can't find the proof.
I know there used to be a web page that listed all the prominent Dems' military service. Can anyone help?

1. Why is the Dems record important? |
|
They aren't in the WH and they're didn't push into a war w/ lies.

4. Exactly Judge. Make the repug give YOU proof of his claim. |
|
Don't do his work for him. Go on the offensive. He may come around when he finds out the truth. Also challenge him to find out how many congresscritters have sons/daughters in Iraq. The only one I've heard of is the son of DEMOCRATIC Senator Tim Johnson of South Dakota.

3. If he is making a claim, the burden is on him to prove it. |
|
Just tell him it's clear to him because he is making it up, but that doesn't make it true.

Thanks guys. I shut him down real quick!
I was considering telling him to provide evidence, but he wouldn't have bothered, and declared himself winner. Far better to show him we have the truth on our side AND the fire to use it. It just serves to remind him what a bunch of lazy hypocrites the right currently has in charge.

7. This is not the real point, however. |
|
Edited on Wed Oct-22-03 01:53 PM by Brotherjohn
The real point is that Republicans made Clinton's avoidance of the draft a big issue, but they do not hold themselves (Bush et al) to the same standard.
And perhaps the bigger point is that Republicans have been the ones quick to go to war (especially this admin). Clinton avoided the draft by seeking deferments due to education, yes. But he was never quick to send others off to war. Therefore, he is not a "Chickenhawk". The lack of military service by Republicans currently in power (most of them), however, reveals them to be inconsistent in that they are awfully quick to send others off to war, whereas they themselves worked awfully hard at avoiding fighting in the Viet Nam War.
