How long do cats live?
Just took my ol' geezer Rusty to the vet: He's 15 & has slowed down quite a bit but seems to be in pretty good health.
Just wondering about DU cat folk experiences.......

1. We had a Siamese
that we had to put down at 14 due to intestinal cancer. If it hadn't been for that, I think she would have kept going for three or four more years.

3. Assuming you and Rusty don't live near Frist,
Rusty could live 20 years. I had a friend whose cat lived until 22.

6. I had to put my baby Nigel down when he was almost 18.
I believe they should live from 17-20 years, if they are well cared for.

8. I've been lucky of late--I had a cat that lasted 21 years
She was a premature stray whose mother had been hit and killed by a car and was hand raised from about four weeks.

I have a 17 year old Himalayan that is still going strong with no worries. Indoor cats both, doted on, as well.

9. Had to put down my 20 year old cat in February -
- he was so senile that he was messing all over the house, would forget where his litter box was, etc. The vet was amazed at his age and he didn't have any physical health problems other than general loss of weight and muscle tone, which occurs in really old cats.

It was his senility that did him in.

11. My experience
Anywhere from 12 to 18 years in my personal experience.

I've heard of plenty of example of cats living to 19 or 20, though.

12. I had one that was over 20 when he passed on. Think the record is
something like 29 years. Another of my cats lived to be 18. Fairly normal age is somewhere between 16 and 18 years.

14. I has a cat live to 18
And she was in good health, just a little ol' lady. I do think she got a little senile. She never liked my dad, but the last 3 years of her life, she'd jump in his lap. She just died of old age.
