I truly detest insomnia.
I cannot shut my brain down and I have to be on a soccer field with 17 four year olds in five hours. Ay!

1. You are not alone.
I am scheduled to coach a soccer game with my daughter's team (4-6 years old) in six hours. Thunderstorms are moving into the area, though, and I am praying for rain as I type.

I'm a rotton mother.

:(

3. It's nothing to lose any sleep over
 I grin because I have insomnia as well. Though I seem to enjoy it a bit more.

I heard they recently found a gene that explains why some of us can get by on so little sleep. Unfortunately they call it the Thatcher gene.

5. More insomniacs, awesome
I'm surprised I don't have my own personal Tyler Durden yet.

7. I honestly can't remember the last time I had 8 hours of sleep.....
...or anything close to that.

For me a "good night" is 5-6 hours, and even those have become rare lately. I've cut down on caffeine - nothing but tea and that's in the morning. I've tried various herbal teas. Some of them work, except then I have to piss in the middle of the night, and can't get back to sleep, which ruins the whole idea. Valerian? Not a chance. Herbal valium- not for me. And I refuse to be hooked on pharmaceuticals.

I'd like to be able to blame it on Bush, but it's been going on longer than that. And it fucking sucks. These people who can slip into unconsciousness the minute their head hits the pillow - I hate them

8. Insomnia sucks
And the longer you go without sleep, the more you dwell on all the things you have to do in five hours - whoops, now it's four hours - okay, now it's three hours - ...... which makes it that much harder to GET to sleep because you're so stressed about the fact that you can't get to sleep.

I am fortunate in that I appear to have moved beyond my insomnia. I suffered terribly for about 6 or 7 years, perhaps longer. At one point, I was working road construction and I'd get to work on about 2 hours sleep and have to work for ten hours underneath heavy equipment and stuff and I'd feel like a total zombie. It was not a nice situation.

You have my sympathy.

10. Seems like once a week or two or so I have a crappy night.
I've just learned to manage it. If I awake and can't fall back asleep, I read some long feature article or play on the 'puter, but I just try not let it get to me.

13. Little or no reason behind it.
Honestly, it just happens every week or two. Seems unrelated to what kind of day I've had.

I'm up for a coupla hours, and sometimes I fall back asleep, sometimes not.

90% of the time I get a solid 7 hours or so, so I've decided it's not a big deal.
