Are there any young DUers?
Am I on the wrong board? Is it wrong of me not to be interested in the discussions about the 1972 album featuring Rajah Poohar and Joni Mitchellson and the St. Elmo's Choir Boys? Does anyone here actually care about doing something or do do we all just want to sit and reminisce about the glorious "Democratic" 80's and bitch about how nothing is going our way now? I'm serious. You can ban me if you'd like, but do we have any solutions or are we just making excuses?

1. What's the interpretation of young?
What threads have you read?
How old are you?
What are your solutions?
And why are you worried about being banned?

4. Sorry, I've had a bad night.
I had a post in the lounge about hip hop and most of the posts seemed to imply that hip hop was unoriginal. I posted that underground hip hop, which is different than Top 40 Rap, seems to be the only "modern" genre of music that is dealing with today's political issues and many of the posters stressed that hip hop was not even music at all. I'm white and 25 and I don't see much dissent coming from the "alternative" scene right now. Hip hop is the only genre dealing with any of the current issues.

5. hell, I'm so hip, young, and underground I'm buried in maggots
if you want to play younger and hipper than thou, you'll need to try something newer than "hip hop".

That's soooo 90s.

that's so 3 years ago. The cool thing to do now is not having an audience at all.

"Like you."

see, I provide my own stinging barbs...

I'm kidding of course, but people tend to get annoyed at the vinyl junkie "my taste in music is soooo superior and how dare you find solace in scratchy old Al Jolson LPs and not ______" mindset.

8. Well hip hop deals with it primarily because hip hip is to today
what Rock and punk were to yesterday..but hell, I'm 45 and I love hip hop...esp Franti and OUTKAST.

But there ARE artists dealing with today's issues in other genres:

John Mellencamp has a new disc out and has been critical.
Hell..even Merle Haggard has a song out called "That's the News" that deals with the Iraq war.

Anyway, have a better day...and yes..many of us DO have ideas on issues and policies and we often share them.

You just gotta ferret through those other threads to find them.

One big problem at the moment, however, is that with all three houses and the media in firm control by Republicans, it gets a bit difficult getting those issues heard or even making them a possibility.

For those of us who have WORKED on policy (myself on the state level) this is a painful time to be alive...it's like being a singer and being struck by laryngitis.

Hang in there...we ALL have our frustrations.

3. How young is young?
Edited on Fri Oct-24-03 02:19 AM by thebigidea
We got to stop catering to teenagers, the preteens are the ones with real solutions.

I want to sit around and wax nostalgic about the 20s, personally. Back when I still had hair, teeth, and a figure.

These days its all loud music, Happy Meals, and crazy foxtrotting.
