Guys according to my brother my stupid right wing friends |
|
slandered me behind my back for protesting the war yesterday. What should I do? Kick their ass or get skittles to , I am serious though what should I do. I dont make fun of their views, I am more disturbed honestly than in laughter. :D I may have gone to protest Herr Bush's illegal war but I dont have primative views on sex.

Come out and ask them. Let them know that, while you don't agree with their views you don't hold it against them.
Apparently they're not really your friends if they can have good yucks about you behind your back.

Ain't nothing you can do about it really. If they ask you about something or make fun of you to your face then you can counter with some facts.

5. upgrade to a better class of friends |
|
If you go on peace marches, it is prudent to keep your contacts with people who could be a security risk to a minimum, and confine your verbal exchanges with them to discussions of flowers and dogs.

6. Here's Some Great Advice A Friend Once Gave Me |
|
If you don't know what to say- THEN DON'T SAY ANYTHING.
Should there be no doubt that certain people were disrepecting you behind your back then take it in stride and don't validate them by making any comments at all....
But next time you see them- simply be courteous....

7. Evaluate the friendships |
|
Are there more positives than negatives. Are they lifelong friends. Do they respect you on other things. Do you have good communication in other areas besides politics.
Depending on the answers (if they're generally solid friends), you might just want to tell them you heard what they said and you'd appreciate it if they'd respect your views in the future.
On the one hand, I think we've got to start talking to each other more. On the other, I've lost my cookies with a few right wing friends. They now know 'don't go there'. It's strange times, hard for everybody to navigate through long time friendships and family relationships with such polarized political views.

10. Have they gotten off their butts to do anything they believe in? |
|
It is easy to say I love bush* and sit on your butt....they need to join the guard and put their ass where their mouth is...they are cowards that hide behind popularity...like trashing the geek using the football quarterbacks name....until they NEED a JOB....

You don't have to agree on politics or anything else with friends. You do have to trust them to respect you and to respect your right to your own perspective. If you can't trust them to stand up for you and to be your friend behind your back, they aren't friends.
You deserve real friends. If you think they are real friends, tell them how you feel about it and see how they respond like friends.
Just my perspective.

17. Ignore it until they say something to you |
|
Then you just espouse about the great time you had, the cool folks, the rebellious aspect of the march. Take it to their level. A few days later mention the politics of it.

18. what do you mean "slandered?" |
|
were they all saying "john is a liberal pansy," or were they spreading lies (Which is not to say you're a pansy, but they're too different things, right?). If they're otherwise good friends, and just disagree with you on politics, let it lie. my friend and i got in a loud argument in media class last year (fortunately in a soundproof room) about the war. doesn't matter. dude's still one of my best friends, even if he did have his head up his ass at the time (he's since started questioning how much bush knew about sept. 11).
so, if they're otherwise good friends, mention that saying that to your brother instead of you is weak shit, then let it go.
