I'm back from the hinterlands. Who wants to hear about my trip to the Rio Grande Valley last week or the Texas State Democratic Executive Committee meeting I went to over the weekend?

is the guy who was the party's General Counsel. His name is Charles Soechting. I heard him testify on redistricting at the House subcommittee meeting in Dallas. He was alright. He was not the candidate I was hoping for though. But he's Bob Slagle's guy and he did beat Gary Mauro. *shrug*

Lifelong Democrat. My problem with him and Mauro both is that to me they represent the "old" party. I was hoping for some new blood with new ideas instead of the same old crap that lost us the state.
The only real plus I can see is that with the redistricting lawsuits getting underway it might be a good idea to have a lawyer in charge.

was the fight over seeing the Party's books. A couple of the State Chair candidates (including Sary Moore who is a CPA) made a big stink about how no one is allowed to see the books. As an auditor that sets off all sorts of warning bells in my brain.

for a couple of reasons. First, Molly Beth is resigning just as the Party finished paying the mortgage on her condo. Second, they keep telling us we're in the black for the first time in anyone's memory. My response to that is "PROVE IT!"

the Party bought her condo. The Party would pick up the tab for her living expenses in Austin anyway and somehow she convinced the powers that be that they should just buy her condo instead of renting it. Problem is, now she owns it instead of the Party. I have a HUGE problem with that.

he seemed awfully subdued when I saw him. He seemed a little tired, so maybe it's all for the best.
He teased me - that was cool. I was picking up a Dean bumpersticker at the Dean table on Saturday morning and he came by. He noticed I was wearing a Kucinich button and had a Kerry sticker in my pocket. He teased me about being indecisive and we talked for a bit about it being a good thing to have so many candidates from all wings of the Party in teh Presidential race. It was fun. :-)

Then again so am I 'cause I firmly believe that no movie should be even half that long and have only 1 sex scene. Hot girl-on-girl action woulda been preferable to what was actually in that movie. Though a little hot boy-on-boy woulda been nice too to balance things out.

THAT title, kids?) but remember Little Horse? "You look tired, Little Big Man. Would you like to come into my tepee and retht on thoft furthz? You could live with me and I'll be your wife!" I always wondered how the gay community and the Native Aericans liked that depiction.

50. Heck, yeah. It's a terrific film starring Dustin Hoffman as Jack Crabb, |
|
aka Little Big Man. Crabb was adopted as a boy by the Plains Indians, and begins a strange friendship with some of them. One is a rival, who is consumed with jealousy that Chief Lodge Skins (played by Chief Dan George) loves Little Big Man better. The other is Little Horse. LH is teased and bullied by the other boys because he doesn't like to hunt and fight and other 'manly' things. He grows up to be a respected member of the tribe, singing and dancing in their sacred celebrations with great skill. The first ever depiction of a 'gay' Indian. At least that's how I remember it.
It's a great movie and covers a wide field. Hoffman's character is eventually 'rescued' by "civilized" white people, and taught by a stunning Fay Dunaway, who tries to seduce Jack. Man, I was seduced! Even at seven or so, when I first saw the film. I remember Dunaway's character making me feel tingly all over. Whew!
Okay, where was I?

Met interesting people. Got to inform lots of people about the problem with electronic voting. Met a couple of people who lurk on DU and poked them about getting involved. Got bumperstickers for several of the candidates. Got to spend a little time with the former Texas Attorney General (Jim Mattox). He's a bit of a personal hero. He went to high school with a couple of my relatives. And he tracked down my deadbeat uncle to make him pay child support. :-)
Watching the actual committee meeting was one of those lessons in politics and human behavior. No one sounded the least bit excited about voting for either of the State Chair candidates that was seriously in the running. They manage to keep the delegates from the Yougn Democrats, TX Democratic Women, Non-urban Dems, African-American dems, Hispanic dems, and Stonewall dems from getting to vote for chair. They used an incredibly narrow interpretation of TX law to do so. But later on they used a braod interpretation to be able to elect a man as chair. Our state law is pretty clear that of the Chair and Vice-Chair one has to be a man and the other a woman. Well, they decided that the statute only applied to a Chair and Vice-Chair elected at the State Convention. So as of Saturday we may well be violating the law by having men in both positions. *sigh*
I'm rambling.
