Hello all! This is my first post on this forum which I thought would be the best place for this question. If anyone would care to indulge me on this I'd appreciate it. I value the opinions and political sensibilities represented on DU in general. I've been thinking about the OBX area as a possible spot to relocate and wonder if anyone has experience with or lives near that area and cares to comment on the kind of life that exists there.
Anyone?
TIA
ps If there's a better page for this let me know.

but it is beautiful. If you're on the coast, it's a tourist town, and if you're 5 miles inland, you are in Freeperdom.

although that might even be generous. It may be under 5 miles in many places.

Massachusetts still elects Dems to congress and Senate. I hope it stays that way.

OBX as we know it does not exist anymore. Two news inlets were created by Hurricane Isabel and there is now a North and South Hatteras.

Yeah, guess so. Some of the websites I've been checking are carrying Isabel updates.

I live in Durham, equidistant from the beach and the mountains. More jobs, fewer hurricanes.

8. hello fellow Durhamite! |

I love it here too, but wish I was closer to the coast.
Derm is a great place to live - very diverse and always a lot going on.

I live in Raleigh and have been there many times and it's a great place. My Aunt and Uncle live in Kill Devil Hills and love it.

9. OBX is fine if you have an always |

in demand skill like medical, teaching, construction and real estate, or anything connected to tourism/hospitality industry, of course.
Also, can you stand the thought of repeated rebuilding after hurricanes?
I live in the Durham-Chapel Hill area and enjoy the OBX as often as possible. Also the mountains. Was in Black Mountain this past weekend.
Welcome to DU JimWar.

Lots of experience in so-called New American, international regional and fusion world cuisines. We can get pretty eclectic. Rosamaria is from Oaxaca Mex and classically trained but loves pre-columbian type dishes. Irony is: she is currently running the kosher kithchen at a Jewish assisted living center(for which she got certified)

is about 90 mile from Dare County, its easy access to the Outter Banks. I lived in central NC for a while, but it was too far from the beach. NC's shore is beautiful, I'd rather surf there, then here...
