Cheesiest Film of all time - what's your pick |
|
I'm tied between Top Gun, Titanic or Pearl Harbor but I think it has to go with Pearl Harbor. The entire film was way overacted with even the basic stuff.
What do you think is the Cheesiest Film of all time

The same reason why The Rock is a Criterion film. Say what you will about Michael Bay, but he's an amazingly innovative and original filmmaker. He's changed the entire paradigm of the action film with his mtv-style camera work and hyperkinetic editing style. It's not a great film by any means, but stylistically, Michael Bay is one of the great innovators of the modern era.

A putrid crapfest. Bill Pullman as the President(!!!). Judd Hirsch hamming it up like crazy, Harvey Fierstein camping it up like crazy, and Will Smith as that good ol' macho Top Gun type. Plus, surely the most laughable plot twist ever...a computer virus felling the invincible aliens.

Good cheese imo.
The President didn't know that we had an Alien spacecraft at Area 51?
What would smirk do with that information.
The plot was silly, but some of the situations were cool. If was just fun.

My wife is addicted to that hunk of cheese, she must've watched it 100 times. Having that goofy movie playing in my living room a couple of times a month is bad enough, but what really torques me whenever I see it is knowing what those idiots Devlin and Emmerich went on to do -- make that wretched piece of crap that abused my GODZILLA!! That was unforgiveable.

he was self taught then worked with animation legend Willis O'brien (the man behind 1933's King Kong) on Mighty Joe Young. Say what you want about Clash of the Titans, but his "Dynamation" technique was excellent.

The plot was not physically possible. I mean, an asteriod the size of TEXAS???? The largest asteroid, Ceres, is 650 miles in diameter, and it does NOT cross Earth's path. The largest that does cross our path, Eros, is 12-15 miles long, and we already have a spacecraft on that thing studying it.

The only redeeming social value is seeing Cheryl Ladd in a bra. First he thinks she's dead, then she thinks he's dead and by the time the movie is over, you wish they were both dead. (Stolen from a review I read long ago...)

That was going to be MY vote! I remember ProfessorGAC and I both confessed to how COMPELLINGLY CHEESY this movie is, but we MUST watch every time TNT airs it. I was in tears by the end of that exchange.
Besides, it has Sam Elliot, and even straight guys like me swoon over him! :D

I'm not military, but even I had an army relative chuckling at my picking apart of "US Seals".
Am I wrong, or is it SOP to walk down the middle of the street while your enemy is holed up in all the sniper positions? I guess that the enemy doesn't realize that you cannot be hit, while you just point your gun in the general direction of a point on Earth, and they are plugged between the eyes.
Or am I remembering wrong?
Another honorable mention is any of Chuck Norris' Missing in Action films.

Joan Crawford: No...wire...hangers! What's wire hangers doing in this closet when I told you: no wire hangers EVER?!!! I work and work 'till I'm half-dead, and I hear people say, "She's getting old." And what do I get? A daughter....who cares as much about the beautiful dresses I give her...as she cares about me! What's wire hangers doing in this closet?! Answer me! I buy you beautiful dresses, and you treat them like some dishrag. You do! Three hundred dollar dress on a wire hanger! We'll see how many you've got if they're hidden somewhere. We'll see...we'll see. Get out of that bed! All of this is coming out! Out! Out! Out! You've got any more? We're gonna see how many wire hangers you've got in your closet. Wire hangers, why? Why? Christina, get out of that bed! Get out of that bed! You live in the most beautiful house in Brentwood and you don't care if your clothes are stretched out from wire hangers. And your room looks like some two-dollar refurnished room in some two-bit back street town in Okalahoma! Stand up! Get up! Clean up this mess!

and I thought it was my gay duty to view all the gay films that are out there to "support my people" as it were. Well, there is a line from this season's Will & Grace where will explains to Barry that all gay film sucks... I never really knew the depth to which film could suck until I rented a little film called Under One Roof. Good God! It made 70's blacksplotation films look like modern big budget box-office blockbusters (like that alliteration?) Horrible, simply horrible. (Worth a watch just to see how absolutely horrible film making can be!)
