What do you think of her new CD? I loved her older stuff, I've heard clips from her latest. My first impression: It's too slick. Should I even bother to buy it?

Haven't heard the others.
On edit: Plus, she's hot.

That's the problem. I loved both of those recordings. The rawness of them was a perfect match with her songwriting and vocals. Yes, she is hot!

5. Her vocals are awesome on this one |
|
Her singing is a bit overpowered by the production on one or two songs. On the rest, her voice is as awesome as always, if not more so. I couple short bits a capella, and spoken word...fantastic!

3. It is still a great Liz CD |
|
But it is a schocker, if you've been a fan since the her first CD. The first song is so slick...she used Christina Agulara's producer, The Matrix. But it is a good song! Only half the songs are slick like this; the rest are very similar to her old stuff. After a couple listens, they blend together nicely. What takes you by surprise is tapping your feet to these pretty, dancable pop melodies...and then hearing her start in with her nasty lyrics! It's a hoot.
BUT...anyone with a teenage daughter, lock this one up, or buy the "clean" version. It sounds sugary sweet to a casual listen, but it is typical Liz Phair. And I love it.

I loved Guyville so much, I listened to nothing but that one for over a month when it came out. I've loved almost everything she's done since; so I think I will invest in it even though I hate slick pop music.

4. Heard little since Guyville. |
|
I'm afraid anything more will hurt my image of her. I did like that new single, though.

Nothing else is worth listening to, save the title track of Whip-Smart.
'Liz Phair' is an embarassing album, and 'HWC' proves how pandering and awful she's become.

if you're into that type of music, get Avril instead. (I wanted to like it - thought Guyville was brilliant.)
