Other than 'dust' what do you collect? |
|
When I was younger (and up until I was about 34) I collected comics and semi-collected coins. Now I've given up comics and have decided to renew my interest in coin collecting.
Do you collect anything?

Alphonse Mucha posters, almost anything from the Art Nouveau period, coins, family quilts.
Wines, occasionally. But I usually wind up drinking my collection and starting over.

Anime cels are great collectables because they're relatively cheap and a dying art (thanks to computer animation). I also collect old cameras (still and movie), bootleg LPs, musical instruments and baseball cards. I guess I also collect old computer parts, but that's not really by choice. :)

It's pretty, useful, and doesn't take up much space like antique furniture does.

I have only one snowglobe -- it's from Hawaii.
Picture a backdrop of Diamond Head with palm trees. Then imagine 2 hula dancers on a surfboard that see-saws ---- shake up the snow globe and presto, instant laughter! I love it.

because it's just so damned expensive (and lots of folks started collecting once e-bay hit the scene -- items are really overvalued now).
Funny that I seem to collect far more books than anything! I swear they sneak into my home in the middle of the night and never leave.
I would love to collect glass or art pottery but that's impossible in earthquake country!

Now I collect (and paint) wolves in many mediums.

I'll probably forget to mention several. Native-American hunting fetishes, the new quarters, Trek and Star Wars action figures and model ships, Space Shuttle stuff, kites, Thoreauviana, fonts, books - especially nature field guides, music CDs, art rubber stamps, beer cans, beer bottle caps and contemporary projectile points (arrowheads chipped by modern artisans). No doubt, there are others, but I've run out of ideas as well as room in my house.

my friends all make fun of me for it, but I've got a collection going. I live on the westcoast so I have a hard time finding the Philadelphia mint though. And I've only seen one quarter from 2003--Alabama. Have you seen any more of the 2003 ones?

I have been collecting pairs of them and making Beerrings out of them.
Some of the non-screw-off tops are tricky to remove without messing them up for Beerrings. I gently pry them off with a screw driver and do not distort them.
At least, I get to drain the bottles afterward. Yum!

Used an opener on 'em but tried not to be violent....after all, WWII and the Spanish Civil War are over!

I had to get rid of a lot of stuff in the last move, but I had two Apple Lisas (Macintosh predecessor).
I've still got a dulcimer (which I have no idea how to play) and a Farfisa rock organ. I had to pawn my Polymoog (needed a new mixer).
My science fiction collection is spectacular but I've also got an 1903 Compton's Encyclopedia (did you know the sun is fired by coal?)

I used to collect Star Wars figures, but I gave that up about 3 years ago because I couldn't keep up with the new movies.
Now I just leave them in my attic for my children to enjoy...when they come of age and realize they aren't toys, but collector pieces.
Right now, I usually just collect the finest music money can buy...death metal.
Recently, I've been into buying books, new books. My girlfriend bought me Hillary's new book Living History today. Other recent additions were two Michael Moore books and both of Will Pitt's books, again, all thanks to my girlfriend. It was my birthday, what can i say...

|
Mostly the Flash, Hawkman and the Atom. All of which can be gotten at reasonable prices. I used to collect Batman as well. I had the 70's rebirth of the series with Dennis O'Neil Batmans and the Marshall Rogers/Terry Austin Detective Comics. I sold the Batmans and many others to pay for college debt. I got about $5,000 total at that time. I am keeping the Flash and others though for a while.

Old rusty beer cans. :bounce: Any other BCCA members here, email me via the little link above (sorry, has to be DU mail, I have my profile hidden to foil freepers-hate mail.)
BTW, Billy Beer, JR Beer, Worlds Fair Beer, MASH beer, all WORTHLESS. Go ahead and recycle them...... :puke:
And I have a few dozen donkeys, most from my wife and family, some Democratic donkeys :dem:, some "just donkeys." A year ago my wife bought a huge red, white, and blue one for me, The clerk sniffed and said she "prefered elephants." My wife smiled and told her that admitting it was the first step towards getting help. :P LOL
